CITY OF ST GEORGE Administrative Professional II - Transit in ST GEORGE, Utah
Provides clerical and administrative support to the City of St. George Transit Manager and provides
customer service to users of the bus service.
Essential Functions (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following

- As needed, acts as secretary for the Transit Manager: answers telephones, writes reports and letters,
and handles routine requests and other secretarial functions.
- Promptly and professionally responds to telephone and in-person customer service requests for the
Transit Division. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
a. Answers customer service telephone providing general information and determining specific
service needs.
b. Uses computerized scheduling system or manual system to make paratransit service reservations.
c. Assists with the preparation of work assignments for division personnel and operators.
d. Adjusts special needs schedules based on customer calls using a two-way radio to alert operators to
changes.
e. Troubleshoots problems encountered while providing service and assists on steps to remedy
identified problems and/or to coordinate with the Transit Manager on resolutions.
Discusses and assigns work to meet customer service requests.
Ensures that all required reports are prepared and submitted to appropriate management on time and
free of errors. Reports include, but are not limited to, accident/incident reports, financing, payroll, FTA
required reports for the Triennial Reviews, drug and alcohol testing, etc.
- Assists the division in the development and delivery of training for the division and to assure the office
staff is performing according to operating procedures of the division.
- Operates the base station radio communication system responding to all emergencies on the routes.
Records information about road conditions and reroutes busses when necessary.
Assists with dispatch duties as required and paratransit driving as needed.
In the absence of the Transit Manager, assists in investigation of accidents involving transit system
vehicles, and assists bus operators in preparation of accident reports.
- In the absence of the Transit Manager, investigates citizen complaints involving transit vehicles and
employees. Ensures citizens receive correct information in a courteous, clear, and professional manner.
Forwards questions or complaints of a particularly complex or difficult nature to the Transit Manager.
- Assists with SunTran bus ticket sales (at various locations within the city) and keeps maps/schedules
stocked at these locations as well.
- Assists with the collection of data as required by the division for the planning and scheduling of
service.
Assists with conducting outreach activities of the division (i.e. Transportation Expo)
Assists with the distribution of customer literature as required.
Assists in providing general transit service information.
Responsible for all aspects of the paratransit service: Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
taking all calls for prospective clients; keeping electronic and paper files of all applicants (present &
past clients); scheduling & performing in-person assessments; approving or denying eligibility; keeping
all literature & forms current and stocked; maintain a phone data base of clients; on-going education
related to paratransit.
- Maintains copies of drivers licenses/DOT physical cards and renewal dates. Sends reminder s as
needed to the drivers and other staff. Notifies HR when they renew and provides copies to them.
Reports all accidents/incidents to risk management. Updates and maintains an elect onic log sheet.
Ensures that DOT is informed of our monthly diesel usage.
Purchases all department supplies for the buses, vehicles and office.
Maintains copies of all invoices for Triennial Reviews.
Responsible for making bank deposits (twice a week or as needed) for fare box revenue, advertising
and agreement contracts. Responsible for entering these deposits in the City's financial system.
- Responsible for monthly invoicing and reconciliation for local service agreements (USOR, TURN,
DSU, Southwest Behavioral Health Center, and etc. as new agreements are added).
- Responsible for uniforms: ordering; returning; maintaining tracking spreadsheet, keeping stock in
previously used uniforms to reissue to new employees.
Coordinates department functions on an as needed basis): retirement/celebratory luncheons.
Assists with interview process for new hires. Processes new hires/terminated employees by updating
files, documents and notifying the essential departments/establishments (fleet for fuel codes and
Elevation Fitness, etc.)
Provides training on the payroll system to new employees.
Reviews staff timecards for accuracy.
Assist with audits: Hinton Burdick (annual), FTA Triennial Review; FTA/DOT Drug and Alcohol
audits when required.
Assists with GRAMA requests.
Assists with retention of documents.
Maintains postings at the Transit Center and on the busses.
Procurement: Procures the annual bus cleaning contract by obtaining bids. In addition, procures bus
passes and bus stop benches and trash cans as well as large purchase items such as bus shelters.
Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
In a typical work day: Comfortable working conditions. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. When
paratransit pickups are needed: The operator is required to get in and out of the vehicle with some
bending/stooping, crouching, kneeling and reaching necessary. Must be able to push a wheelchair or other
mobility device up a ramp or brace it going down the ramp. When performing assessments: must be able to
walk up to a mile or more. Intermittent exposure to stress as a result of human behavior. Some irregular
working hours may be required. May work outdoor in a variety of weather conditions, including cold,
extreme heat, and rain when responding to accident scenes, operating paratransit van, or when supervising
and/or assisting transit drivers.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years full time experience performing customer service and secretary
functions. Previous experience in dispatching and/or scheduling is desirable.
Licenses and/or Certifications:
• Must possess a valid driver license. A valid Utah Driver License must be obtained within 60 days of hire
and be maintained throughout employment.
• Obtain a Paratransit Eligibility Certification within 6 months of date of hire (subject to when the NTD
class is offered).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
• Various software applications, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office Products/Google drive.
• The geographical areas of the City, street names, bus routes, and alternate routes.
• Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural
backgrounds.
• Computers and office equip ment.
• Generally accepted office practices, general business English, and basic math.
Ability to:
• React quickly to situations that could create safety and customer security problems.
• Attempt to identify travel itineraries for customers either by computer or manually.
• Successfully read maps and schedule information.
• Accurately investigate accidents and make safety recommendations.
