Summary

The Technical Trainer and Quality Assurance Inspector -Trailers is responsible to deliver mechanic competency-based hands on OJT and classroom training for all trailer maintenance employees in a manner that prepares them for a variety of occupational opportunities in our shops that is reinforced by conducting quality assurance inspection audits.

Education and Experience

  • 2-year degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or equivalent welding program and 5 + years of experience as a trailer mechanic with the training experience preferred.

  • Must have proven experience in welding and fabricating.

  • Must have experience with hydraulics and small engines.

  • Excellent working knowledge of DOT and government safety standards.

  • Working knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with all levels of internal and external staff. Able to relate effectively to diverse cultures.

  • Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to operate vehicles; a valid Class A driver's license is preferred.

  • Must have current forklift certification and the ability to train maintenance personnel within 90 days of employment.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.

  • Excellent communication skills (written, listening, and verbal)

  • Willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, implementing, and ensuring that appropriate safety practices and policies are always used, employees are knowledgeable of safety techniques, and all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition, such as, but not limited to, forklift, Right to Know, Lockout/Tagout and PPE, etc.

  • Conduct daily work directly on the shop floor by providing hands-on OJT to all mechanics and providing direct hands-on assistance during difficult-to-diagnose complaints while following OEM and ATS warrantable and/or non-warrantable standard repair guidelines and SOP's.

  • Conduct daily workmanship quality assurance inspection audits as outlined in program SOP to insure all preventive maintenance, repair guidelines and SOP's are constantly being followed across all ATS shops.

  • Use effective competency-based teaching techniques, instructional materials, and appropriate media support to conduct classroom lectures, coursework, and hands-on qualifications to prepare all employees with practical and essential skills.

  • Evaluate and document employees' competency attainment, course progress, work-based learning experiences, and workplace behaviors and provide feedback to shop management.

  • Identify trends and suggest changes/improvements necessary to achieve goals.

  • Collaborate with the team to design and implement ongoing training for new and current employees.

  • Assist in maintaining a system of evaluations to rate each mechanics' skill level and match that skill level to the work that will be assigned to them to provide feedback to shop management.

  • Assist in maintaining master training records and certifications for all maintenance employees.

  • Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and infrequent travel may be required.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Frequently operates a keyboard and mouse and constantly utilizes a computer monitor(s).

Constantly conversing with internal and external customers in person or via the phone system.

Intermittently positioning self under, on top of, or in awkward positions to work on equipment.

Occasionally uses hand tools and power hand tools to repair equipment, manipulate parts into position or enter data into a computer.

Frequently inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair.

Exposure to:

  • Loud noises constantly require hearing protection.

  • Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.

  • Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, and odors constantly.

  • Situations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.
