This is an independent position that works in the FDOH-SJC Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) department

Completes the processes related to WIC following the WIC Procedure Manual (https://floridahealth.sharepoint.com/sites/COMMUNITYHEALTH/WIC/Intranet/Pages/manual.aspx) . Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Determining eligibility or coordinating the eligibility for the WIC program

  • Coordinating issuance or completing the issuance process for WIC benefits

  • Providing explanation of benefits to new WIC clients as well as reviewing contents of the New People Packet

  • Issuing Farmers Market Vouchers and updating logs per protocol

  • Interviewing clients to obtain nutrition history and enters into the appropriate system

  • Scheduling appointments and making appointment reminder calls

  • Mailing postcards to unreachable clients

  • Completing the Assistance Needed tab

  • Issuing direct distribution of special formula and ensuring record of issuance is documented in appropriate locations

  • Providing clients with interactive secondary nutrition education contacts through the quarterly assigned topic

  • Document and maintain second nutrition tally documentation quarterly

  • Notifies clients of expiring certification

    Completes anthropometric and hematological collection and data entry:

  • Obtains anthropometric data for clients utilizing the correct equipment and procedures

  • Obtains hematological data for clients utilizing the correct equipment and procedures

  • Documents results per procedures

  • Calibrates equipment and documents monthly

  • Cleans and sterilizes equipment in between clients following established protocols

    Participates in breastfeeding promotion and support activities.

    Telephones clients for reminders and missed WIC appointments daily. Retrieves voicemails and returns calls as needed.

    Lead for voter registration activities in St. Johns County, including training staff and submitting reports as required. Ensures clients are offered the opportunity to apply to register to vote according to instructions.

    Acts as back up to vendor manager when needed to conduct compliance reviews and store trainings.

    Performs and maintains monthly program inventory by:

  • Performing special formula inventory monthly and filing report appropriately.

  • Referring to WIC staff member, who is assigned to order formula as needed.

  • Maintaining FL WIC printed material and inventory by placing request order quarterly.

  • Maintaining WIC EBT card and reconciliation logs daily.

    Maintains knowledge of and implements all updates for regulations, policies, and procedures of the WIC Program and providing accurate information to program participants, as published in FDOH WIC Bureau Share Point reference materials. Performs other related educational training requirements to meet minimum WIC program standard.

    Participates in community outreach activities as required.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities, including utilization of equipment, required for the position:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of community resources

  • Knowledge of basic arithmetic

  • Skilled in communicating effectively and providing excellent customer service

  • Ability to work with infants and children and perform hematological tests

  • Ability to work with computer programs including Work and Excel

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work activities.

  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with others

    Qualifications:

    Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Valid driver’s license.

    Other job-related requirements for this position:

    Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
