McDermott Principal Security Specialist / Marine Facility Security Officer in Squamish, British Columbia

The Principal Security Specialist interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices. They will be tasked with solving complex security-related problems and will work independently with minimal guidance. The Principal Security Specialist may be responsible for leading functional teams or projects and is regarded as a specialist in the field of security. As such, they must have in-depth expertise in security and broad knowledge of the security discipline within the Health Safety Environment function. Reporting to the MDR Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO) and to the Site Security Lead/Deputy Site Security Lead when the MFSO is absent from site, the Deputy Marine Facility Security Officer (D/MFSO) will support and assume all MFSO roles when the MFSO is away from site (illness, leave, rotational time off). These duties include being responsible for establishing and directly overseeing Marine Security (MARSEC) conditions and processes, approved by Transport Canada, for the security of international marine assets on the WLNG Project– specifically international vessels arriving at the Marine Offloading Facility (MOF) to unload prefabricated modules and/or other construction materials

  • Support Management with site security needs

  • Manage Security Guard Supervisors and Security Specialists/Supervisors in the application and execution of effective security plans

  • Support on bid inputs for new projects

  • Conduct country risk & threat assessments to support new market entries

  • Maintain close relationships with designated project line management

  • Recognize deficiencies and implement improvements to existing processes

  • Implementation of specific and measurable goals Review weekly guard schedule and ensure all posts are covered as required

  • Liaise between employees, visitors, contractors, and vendors

  • Draft Security Standard Operating Procedures, policies, and project/location-specific guidelines, ensuring McDermott facilities, personnel, and assets are protected

  • Conduct investigations and produce high-quality written reports

  • Maintain security equipment and document findings when damaged or in need of maintenance

  • Submit requests for maintenance, tools, and equipment

  • Ensure security training is completed

  • Defuse disturbances in accordance with company policies and procedures

  • Conduct risk/threat assessments and present findings to project management

  • Ensure scheduled and random checks of designated areas throughout the facility are conducted and documented

  • Maintain supplies and equipment for the access control system

  • Manage integration and installation of alarm systems, access control systems, CCTV systems, and related security equipment

  • Liaise with Operational and Project Management Teams to determine operational security needs

  • Recommend best practices related to security

  • Maintain the Visitor Management System

  • Work within pre-defined budgets to deliver security systems to McDermott sites/facilities

  • Develop, prepare, and issue weekly security activity plans

  • Identify, recommend, and implement systems to minimize the loss of company assets

  • Ensure security strategies are communicated effectively and understood by the Project Management Team

  • Ensure the viability of all physical security systems, legacy and new, with the goal of minimal business disruption

  • Produce tailored security solutions for projects and facilities aligned with corporate security guidelines

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with law enforcement, host nation government agencies, foreign embassies, and applicable non-government agencies

  • Advise management on regional security issues, trends, threats & risks, and protective measures

  • Monitor, evaluate, and report the effectiveness of the security management system and lead improvements to integrate security into the business

  • Write and speak with clarity and precision, presenting complex information in an understandable format

  • 8 years of experience in Security, Law Enforcement, or Military or one year as a Senior Security Specialist

  • 3 years of supervisory experience preferred

  • Possess all state/federal/national security guard license(s) applicable to the area of operation

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • Degree or equivalent industry-recognized qualification

  • Recognized Business Continuity qualification is desirable

  • Must hold a valid driver’s license

  • Must possess all state/federal/national security guard license(s) applicable to the area of operation

  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office platform

  • Effective written and oral communication skills; able to communicate clearly with all levels of management on business matters

  • Ability to work extended or extra shifts when required

  • Extensive functional, business, industry, and leadership expertise

  • For USA-based operations, must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write comprehensive reports for investigation and documentation

  • ASIS International APP (Associate Protection Professional) certification preferred

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of security and safety

  • Functional, business, industry, and leadership experience

  • Extensive experience and knowledge of various access control platforms (Lenel), video management systems, and incident management applications/software

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in managing complex people, processes, and technical projects

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to drive process improvement

  • Experience gathering and analyzing data to create useful metrics that support positive change

  • Can lead a cross-functional team

  • Possess general knowledge and understanding of local and country-specific employment laws
