Cabela's Sr Manager, EHS - Distribution Center in Springfield, United States
POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior EHS Manager to oversee the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for our six distribution centers. This role will primarily focus on safety, with a strong understanding of Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance, DOT, hazardous materials (hazmat) shipping requirements, industrial hygiene, and ergonomics. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in EHS management within a distribution or logistics environment and will be adept at promoting behavior-based safety programs and developing a culture of safety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Safety Management:
Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive safety programs to ensure a safe working environment across all distribution centers.
Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Provide safety training and education to employees at all levels, ensuring a strong safety culture.
Promote behavior-based safety programs to identify and modify unsafe behaviors through observation, feedback, and positive reinforcement.
2. Environmental Compliance:
Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including RCRA.
Manage hazardous waste disposal and reporting in accordance with RCRA requirements, particularly related to damaged goods and customer returns.
Develop and implement environmental management systems and policies.
3. DOT and Hazmat Shipping:
Ensure compliance with DOT and hazmat shipping requirements.
Oversee the proper classification, packaging, labeling, and documentation of hazardous materials for shipping.
Develop and deliver training programs on DOT and hazmat shipping regulations and procedures.
4. Program Management and Development:
Develop and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with distribution center EHS managers to implement best practices and standardize EHS processes across all locations.
Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics and trends.
5. Training and Development:
Design and deliver EHS training programs for employees and management.
Ensure that all employees are adequately trained on EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
6. Leadership and Collaboration:
Lead a team of six distribution center EHS managers, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
Foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship across all distribution centers.
Collaborate with other departments to integrate EHS considerations into operational decisions.
7. Industrial Hygiene and Ergonomics:
Conduct industrial hygiene studies and readings to determine hazardous exposure to employees.
Perform ergonomics studies to improve workplace design and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders.
Develop white papers and business case studies with Return on Investment (ROI) for improvements in engineered controls, PPE, etc.
ALL OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Degree: Master’s degree in a related field. Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 standards.
Certificate(s) or License(s): Preferred Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant EHS certification.
Years of experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in EHS management within a manufacturing environment. In-depth knowledge or RCRA, DOT and hazmat shipping requirements. Proven experience in safety program development, training and auditing.

Frequent:

Monitor and report on EHS performance metrics and trends.
Collaborate with distribution center EHS managers to implement best practices and standardize EHS processes.
Infrequent:
Develop and present an annual EHS plan that outlines goals, initiatives, and resource requirements.
Lead response and recovery efforts for significant incidents, including coordinating with external agencies and stakeholders.
Review and update EHS policies and procedures to maintain cohesiveness across the company’s safety program.
Lead strategic EHS projects and initiatives aimed at improving sustainability and compliance.
Prepare for and coordinate external regulatory audits, responding to findings and implementing required corrective actions.
Conduct advanced training sessions and workshops for EHS personnel.
Conduct and lead safety committee meetings.
Review, evaluate, and develop emergency response procedures for the facility.
Coordinate training for Emergency Response Personnel.
Develop white papers and business case studies with ROI for improvements in engineered controls, PPE, etc.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to travel up to 30%

INDEPENDENT JUDGEMENT :
Develops objectives and general policies and procedures for a specific program or functional area of responsibility within general scope of established operational goals and plans. Day-to-day work and decisions do not require direction or review by immediate supervisor. End results are reviewed by supervisor.
