PURPOSE OF POSITION:
IT Network Engineer I:
Under the direction of the Supervisor-IT Network Operations or designee, responsible for the design, implementation, administration, and support of large enterprise network and server infrastructure. In cooperation with the Support Center, provides end-user desktop support and client infrastructure management, including patching, performance monitoring, and implementation. Ensures data integrity and recovery processes including data backup and business continuation. Monitors and assists Application Development with the deployment and maintenance of enterprise applications and associated platforms. Responsible for managing computer network and application access control across multiple systems. Responsible for the design, implementation, management, and documentation of enterprise systems subject to regulatory and industry requirements such as PCI and NERC CIP.
IT Network Engineer II and III:
In addition to the IT Network Engineer I, the IT Network Engineer II and III provides mentoring opportunities for other IT personnel and may act as Technical Lead on large projects.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education And Experience:
IT Network Engineer I, II, or III:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, or a related field is required. Exceptional experience and progress toward certification will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree on a year for year basis.
Experience automating system administrative tasks using scripting languages (Bash, Powershell), and/or configuration management tools (Puppet, Ansible, etc.) is preferred.
IT Network Engineer I:
Two years’ recent enterprise server experience is required including Linux & Windows Server management/deployment, data center virtualization infrastructure, and end-user desktop management/deployment.
Experience with performance and security event monitoring is preferred.
Experience in environments subject to NERC CIP requirements is preferred.
Experience with Windows and Linux application deployment and virtualization solutions (including Turbo or Docker) is preferred.
IT Network Engineer II:
Four years’ recent enterprise server experience is required including Linux & Windows Server management/deployment, data center virtualization infrastructure, and end-user desktop management/deployment.
Advanced experience with performance and security event monitoring is preferred.
Progressive experience with Windows and Linux application deployment and virtualization solutions (including Turbo or Docker) is preferred.
Two years’ experience in environments subject to NERC CIP requirements is preferred.
IT Network Engineer III:
Six years’ recent enterprise server experience is required including Linux & Windows Server management/deployment, data center virtualization infrastructure, and end-user desktop management/deployment.
Advanced experience with performance and security event monitoring is preferred.
Advanced experience with Windows and Linux application deployment and virtualization solutions (including Turbo or Docker) is preferred.
Two years’ extensive experience in environments subject to NERC CIP requirements is preferred.
Licensing/Certification:
IT Network Engineer I, II, or III:
- Must have a valid driver’s license (minimum Class F).
IT Network Engineer I:
- Active progress toward obtaining industry certifications (MCSE, MCITP, Linux , RHCSA, LPIC, etc.) is preferred.
IT Network Engineer II:
- Advanced IT certifications such as MCITP, MCSE, Linux , LPIC, RHCE, SNCP, etc. is preferred.
IT Network Engineer III:
- Advanced IT certifications such as MCITP, MCSE, Linux , LPIC, RHCE, SNCP, etc. is required.
IT Network Engineer I, II, or III:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
**The IT Network Engineer II and III assumes greater proficiency and advanced knowledge for the KSA’s below.
- Ability to:
o Establish priorities and be well organized (goal and project oriented).
o Capability to quickly learn and become familiar with technical subjects.
o Communicate clearly and concisely in person, over the phone, or using chat.
o Demonstrate abilities in meeting deadlines and scheduling of work for timely completion.
o Successfully navigate various software programs including, but not limited to, time entry, Microsoft Office Suites, and other applicable programs.
Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
Working knowledge of:
o Internet and website protocols including HTTP, HTTPS, DNS, SSH, FTP, SFTP.
o Public key cryptography infrastructure (PKI), certificates, and key management practices.
o Computer networks, peripheral equipment, system software, personal computers, and communication.
- Familiarity with:
o Website infrastructure technologies including load balancing and proxy configurations with Apache, Nginx, or similar.
o Scripting languages and system automation tools including Bash, Powershell, Ansible, Puppet, and similar tools.
o Windows and Linux operating systems, including their respective management tools and patch management systems.
o Virtual computing environments including VMWare, KVM, etc.
Understand enterprise storage systems and associated backup requirements.
Maintain adherence to all company policies.
Physical Requirements:
Typically, sedentary work. Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word and receive detailed information through oral communication. Substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers, and close visual acuity to operate a computer is required. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment. May require occasional late hours and weekend work.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
Employee must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
TESTING:
Testing may be required.
