KOLR10/FOX49 in Springfield, Missouri is hiring a Digital Content Producer (DCP) to continue our strong momentum in delivering high-quality local news to the Ozarks. The DCP writes, updates, and shares stories for ozarksfirst.com. Our goal is to grow website pageviews and users.
A DCP is a passionate writer who takes initiative and thinks critically and independently. As the first person to get real-time news out to the DMA, a DCP’s deadline is always now. DCPs must prioritize growing our web/app traffic while balancing and maintaining journalistic integrity.
Duties & Responsibilities
Be first to report breaking news stories
Monitor analytic tools, social media, alerts, and all regional media for interesting and/or trending stories
Write daily stories (avg. 3-5 stories/day) that are packaged in a way that grows pages per session and time on the page while utilizing SEO best practices to grow website search traffic
Monitor competition to ensure no daily stories across the DMA are missed
Proofread, package, and promote stories from third-party feed partners (Nexstar Wire, NewsNation, AP, networks, etc.)
Proofread packaged and promoted broadcast reporter stories
Work with producers and news field crew on adding video to web stories
Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate with other members of the newsroom
Push engaging and breaking stories on the mobile app
Generate meaningful audience engagement on social media
Develop new digital content ideas for ozarksfirst.com
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or related field (equivalent experience may substitute)
Expertise in digital storytelling is preferred
Familiar with SEO importance and best practices
Proficiency in AP-style writing
Possess journalistic integrity and understanding of needs and expectations
Comfortable with cold calling to develop stories
Self-starting and highly detail-oriented
Ability to handle high-stress environments and deadline pressures
