Way Finders PT Residential Advocate in Springfield, Massachusetts

Responsible for ongoing participant support and guidance. Implementation of program rules and procedures while promoting a strength based and positive residential environment; Monitor and organize all daily activities of the program; provide crisis intervention and advocacy to families residing within the emergency residential program. Support families with meeting goals, objectives and requirements of Way Finders and state funding sources. Responsibilities Include: Assist with initial intake interviews to admit families to the shelter as necessary; Provide crisis counseling and follow-up interviews; Screen clients for immediate need for medical, legal or psychiatric attention; Assist the Program Specialist and Case Manager with activities related to Re-Housing Plans; Assist with referrals to other agencies and help facilitate workshops as directed by Program Manager; Assign and monitor weekly housekeeping tasks; Maintain daily schedule and facilitate resident participation and community responsibilities Supervision of recreation, educational and cultural activities Assist in the resolution of problems or issues that arise during shift; Ongoing individual participant support Attend staff meetings, development meetings and trainings as required; Learn, observe, follow and enforce all program procedures, rules, regulations and policies of the program; Complete all required documentation in a timely manner, and ensure daily program communication; Maintain written documentation in communication logs and participant files as necessary to meet participant and program needs Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the facility and property (including, but not limited to: dusting, organizing, laundry of linen as necessary, loading/unloading inventory, shoveling, sweeping, mopping, etc..) Maintain adequate supplies of food and household items to run the program and inform Program Manager of program needs; Facilitate groups as required Respond to the needs and requests of residents in a timely fashion in accordance with rules & regulations; Report maintenance needs and follow related procedures; Immediately report serious incidents to on-call manager adhering to on call notification procedures Performs other related duties as needed Hiring Requirements/Preferences Two years college degree in human services or comparable work experience in human services; Will consider candidates in college programs in human services, social work or nonprofit majors A minimum of an additional year of directly related experience in counseling or working with homeless families; Will consider inexperienced candidates in college programs in human services, social work or non profit majors Must have excellent interpersonal skills Must be able to work in a high-stress environment and respond to crisis; Must be able to navigate multiple flights of stairs in a home environment; Bilingual English/Spanish is a preferred skill. Basic PC-based computer skills Previous experience in housing or work with homeless families preferred, but not required. Wage range $15.00 - $17.67/hour depending on education and experience.
