DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: As a Product Development Chemist, Entry for PPG Protective and Marine Coatings S&T Durable Finishes, you will be part of a technical team responsible for product maintenance and development of polyurethane, polysiloxane, polyaspartic and other high weatherable topcoats in both global and regional technology segments.

Key Responsibilities  * Supplying to innovative technical solutions to challenging problems  * Assist in formulation of new and improved products with chemistries including polyurethane, polysiloxane and polyaspartic in solvent-based and water-based technologies - primarily for Heavy Duty Protective and Marine markets  * Demonstrates ability to work with manager in setting SMART project goals and timelines  * Responsible for supporting the design, testing, application, and analysis/evaluation of results that will lead to successful product commercialization  * Share ancillary duties such as equipment maintenance and calibration, ordering raw materials and lab supplies, competitor benchmarking and other testing, and other support duties as needed  * Will also be involved with production scale-up, launches, and maintenance of product line. Will assist in manufacturing and field concerns through root cause analysis  * Product launch, field support and meetings may necessitate some travel and overnight stays, less than 10%  * Will take direction from expert and lead chemists

Qualifications:  * Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering is required  * 1 - 3 years of relevant work experience required  * Knowledge of durable finish testing procedures as well as design of experiments principles is preferred  * Travel would result in less than 10%  * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required  * Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills in order to deal effectively with external customers and internal personnel; generate written reports; and make technical presentations
