Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) is an integrated group of scientists composed of a clinical Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, and a Translational Sciences (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end-to-end portfolio. Together, the TSM group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, TSM serves as a pivotal bridge between Discovery Research and the later phase Clinical Development group. TSM provides the necessary scientific and clinical expertise to advance an industry-leading pipeline of novel mechanism small molecules and biologic agents to address unmet need in immune-mediated diseases.

TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision-making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. Expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development are highly desirable.

This position will reside within the ImmunoDermatology group in the Immunology Translational Sciences department and requires a highly motivated and skilled candidate to assist in the clinical progression of innovative therapies across diseases. The successful candidate will serve as a Translational Science Program Lead (TSPL) responsible for the development and implementation of translational strategy to support immunology portfolio assets. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a matrixed team with diverse expertise and will be responsible for the successful implement of high caliber translational biomarker packages. Further, the candidate will operate in a highly collaborative environment and deliver high quality to support key stakeholders such as the compound development teams, clinical trial teams, dermatology disease area stronghold and Translational Science and Medicine.The candidate will ensure delivery of completed data and analyses in support of key program milestones, drive technical excellence in translational science and biomarker research, contribute to the strategic direction of TS, and will take an active role in mentoring team members. Furthermore, the candidate will partner with cross-functional teams to engage in interactions with external experts and academic institutions to advance Immunology portfolio.

Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop and implement translational strategy to support compound development teams

  • Contribute to the strategies on molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and novel biomarker-based endpoints in clinical trials

  • Manages external testing vendors and partners to ensure biomarker samples are tested and data is reported to meet development timelines and specifications

  • Communicate study results and provide guidance to stakeholders in applying those results for strategic decisions

  • Collaborate with bioinformaticians on data analysis plan from integrated multi-omic datasets

  • Take initiative to identify, pilot and validate emerging novel translational technologies to expand iDerm TS capabilities

  • Develop technical expertise and leadership potential of team members with particular focus on training the next wave of science leaders

  • Help build an extensive external network of leaders to enable strategic partnerships and awareness of advances in translational and biomarker research

  • Prepare and review of protocols, clinical study reports, IBs, INDs, abstracts, manuscripts, and technical reports

Qualifications

  • PhD or MD/PhD with at least 5 years or B.S. with at least 15 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors

  • Experienced in type 2 diseases (atopic dermatitis and asthma) and/or expertise in itch biology is strongly preferred

  • Experience in translational research, including biomarker analysis, patient stratification, and diagnostic approaches, in the industry setting is strongly preferred

  • Project leadership experienced in matrix environment is strongly preferred

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $135,000 to $232,300.
