ABOUT THE POSITION: Spokane Valley is seeking highly qualified and enthusiastic employees to serve our City as on-call Snow Plow Operators.  Ideal candidates must have flexible hours to work on a casual, on-call basis, including night and weekend shifts as weather conditions dictate.

SELECTED EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The primary duties of this position are to plow snow, load and spread de-icing salt and other snow and ice control duties utilizing City provided vehicle(s) and/or equipment.

 

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Education and Experience: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in the operation of 26,000 or larger GVW trucks.  Valid Washington State driver's license, Class "A" or "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification is required to apply and remain employed in this position.  A Class A CDL with N (cargo/tanker) endorsement and airbrake endorsement required.  Must pass a pre-employment drug test and comply with State and Federal requirements to maintain a Commercial Driver's License.  Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal check, is a requirement of employment at Spokane Valley. 

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods and procedures used in snow plow removal activities; skill in operation of various tools and equipment; and the ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.  This position requires considerable knowledge, ability and skill in the principles and practices of excellent customer service as practiced in both the private and public sectors. 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to report for work with very little advance notification.  In some cases, notice may be provided the evening before for a start time the following day of 5:00 a.m.  Required days of work will include weekdays, weekends and holidays.  This is an on-call position where the employee is paid only for actual work hours.

 

SALARY:  The hourly rate for this position is $28.00 to $36.00 per hour.  This is an at-will, temporary non-represented, FLSA non-exempt on-call position in the Community and Public Works Department.  The position is covered by Workers Compensation insurance and subject to Federal withholdings for Social Security, Medicare and income taxes.
