Mainstay Supportive Housing and Home Care, Inc. provides human service and housing programs across Massachusetts, including permanent supportive housing and compassionate, person-centered home care. Our programs have helped hundreds of people live productive and stable lives in their own communities every day for all of these years. Mainstay was founded in 1975 to provide services to people with mental illness, and our mandate has since expanded to cover a variety of vulnerable populations, including low-income elders; people with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities; and the recently homeless.

We are seeking a kind, thoughtful, caring and dependable candidates to work Per Diem as a Home Health Aide (HHA). The position includes providing 1:1 care to Residents in Spencer, MA and surrounding towns. Services are provided in the client’s apartment. Clients have varied degrees of independence and a variety of support needs, including aging in place, mental health issues, and physical disabilities. This position will average 15 hours per week, with a Sunday through Tuesday schedule.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have upbeat. genuine interactions with the Residents, staff team, property management team, family members.

  • Perform Direct Care duties guided by the Resident’s Plan of Care. These duties focus heavily on 1:1 support of the Resident’s needs in Activities of Daily Living- shaving, mouth care, hair care, skin care, dressing, exercising, positioning, feeding, toileting, medication reminders, ambulation and transfers and cueing in these areas.

  • Assist clients with laundry and cleaning.

  • Prepare meals for/with clients and follow correct dietary plan.

  • Provide companionship to the clients, doing something mindful and fun, recreational during daily visits.

  • Write daily service logs, track daily goals of the Plan of Care, record service delivery on the GPS system.

  • Report any client health status changes to supervisor.

  • Represent Mainstay to the community and outside stakeholders with integrity.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1-3 years of experience working with individuals with a variety of disabilities, preferably in a residential setting.

  • CPR and First Aid certifications (or ability to pass within the first 30 days of employment).

  • Valid driver’s license

Skills Knowledge & Abilities

  • The ideal candidate will have excellent team player and relationship building skills and will collaboratively work with families, support staff, live-in staff, nurses and the

  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic time and attendance software and receive and send electronic mail.

  • With support and training from your supervisor, ability to learn the procedures and policies of the MassHealth Group Adult Care Program (GAFC) –no prior experience with this program is expected.

  • Be enthusiastic with clients

  • Be open to ideas, new experiences, and new ways of doing things

  • Ask for help when needed and be willing to help others

  • Keep appropriate matters confidential

  • Share your ideas, opinions, and thoughts when appropriate

  • Use good judgment for all your decisions. When in doubt, reach out to your supervisor.

  • Understand that you and others will make mistakes. Learn from them.

  • Be available for a Sunday - Tuesday schedule.
