Robert Half Staff Accountant in Sparta, New Jersey

Description We are offering a contract to hire employment opportunity for a Staff Accountant in the education industry. This role is based in Sparta, New Jersey, and requires on-site attendance. As a Staff Accountant, you will mainly focus on Accounts Payable (AP) duties, but your responsibilities will also encompass a variety of accounting tasks, including bank reconciliations, account analysis, and general ledger management.

Responsibilities:

• Manage and maintain all aspects of Accounts Payable

• Conduct regular bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy

• Perform account analysis to identify and resolve discrepancies

• Maintain the general ledger, ensuring all entries are accurate and up-to-date

• If possible, manage sales and use tax matters

• Utilize Microsoft Dynamics GP for various accounting tasks

• Use advanced Excel features such as V-lookups and pivot tables for data analysis and reporting

• Oversee Accounts Receivable (AR) when necessary

• Assist with journal entries and month-end close processes. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.

• Proven experience as a staff accountant or relevant role in the education sector.

• Extensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures.

• Demonstrated proficiency in accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).

• Experience with bank reconciliations and maintaining general ledger.

• Proficiency in preparing journal entries and facilitating month-end close procedures.

• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including pivot tables, vlookups, and complex formulas.

• Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.

• Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines.

• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong ethical standards and high levels of integrity.

• Ability to handle sensitive, confidential information.

• Willingness to continuously improve and learn new skills.

• CPA or CMA certification would be considered an asset.
