Charles Schwab Kubernetes Senior Engineer – Cloud Lead in Southlake, Texas
Your opportunity
A career focusing on Container and Compute services within Cloud Engineering, will provide you with the opportunity to focus on joint relationship between Cloud Services and various application teams to bring new and innovative solutions.
You will be at the forefront of helping application teams within Schwab adopt innovative cloud solutions that optimize business processes or enable scalable technology. As a Lead you will be a force multiplier for the more junior members. That means understanding the bigger picture, sprint goals, PI goals, and taking responsibility for making the team successful, while mentoring and guiding each team member.
As a Senior Cloud Engineer Lead with a focus on Containers, you will use your knowledge of Kubernetes environments to design innovative solutions. You will lead multiple highly complex projects of diverse scope, act as a subject matter expert and collaborate with customers, peers, internal and external partners. You will design, build, update, and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Cloud platforms with a focus on Container Services and related domains like Network, Logging, and Security.
This will be hands-on engineering role on architectural side of development process in support of Schwab’s Cloud Compute and Containers services for various business initiatives.
Design, Document and build complex Kubernetes systems
Monitoring container performance and optimizing system configuration
Provide well documented architecture, design, as well as review existing state and offer alternative state solutions
Understanding up-and-down stream impact of changes and proposals
Develop and automate infrastructure with Terraform
Creating reusable, modular orchestrated code to deploy resources.
Analyzing complex ideas or proposals and build a range of meaningful recommendations.
Championing managing cloud environments in accordance with cloud best practices and security guidelines.
Collaborating with Product Teams, architects, and Engineers to deliver positive cloud deployment experiences
Mentoring junior developers in design patterns, best practices, and software development strategy
Participating in an on-call rotation that provides 24x7 platform support.
Staying technically curious, research and implement new technical solutions
Identifying and influence ways to improve our technology, process & performance
Participating in an agile scrum-based software development environment
Exceling in fast-paced customer focused environment which embraces the newest technologies and techniques.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
What you have
Required Skills:
Minimum 10 years’ experience working within Enterprise IT with Bachelor of Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
5-7 years’ experience with development or infrastructure as code tools, including Terraform, Helm, Bicep, JSON, Python, JavaScript, or YAML.
5+ years’ experience design, maintaining, optimizing, and supporting Kubernetes and
3+ years’ experience working in public cloud environments (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure)
Deep understanding of Cloud Native technologies in Infrastructure layer, Provisioning layer, Runtime layer, Orchestration layer and Application development layer,
Expert knowledge of configuration and best practices around Kubernetes as well as related services like DNS, load balancing, networking, etc.
Advanced knowledge of cloud-native resources and deployment to ensure scalability, resiliency, performance, and reliability.
Advanced trouble shooting capabilities of Kubernetes and associated services.
Experience working within a Dev Ops framework using CI/CD pipelines.
Experience with Atlassian suite of products to include JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket & Bamboo
Knowledge of cloud compute and container concepts
Prefer candidate that has hands-on experience working with GCP GKE, Anthos ServiceMesh, and Anthos Configuration Management
