Corewell Health Well-being Program Specialist Coach in Southfield, Michigan

Job Summary

Responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive coaching program that meets the wellbeing coaching needs of all team members at Corewell Health; including physicians, APPs and leaders. This dynamic role involves both direct coaching and strategic program management. In collaboration with a team of wellbeing coaches, the Coaching Well-being Program Specialist develops meaningful relationships with Corewell Health team members, assisting them in actively working towards better health and wellbeing by providing support, encouragement, and education. Coaches guide team members to enhance their overall health and life satisfaction by fostering positive habits, self-awareness, and resilience, typically through personalized goal setting, motivation, and accountability across all dimensions of wellbeing: emotional, financial, intellectual, physical, social and spiritual.

Responsible for administering all facets of the program. This includes recruitment, coordination, and guidance of contracted coaches, developing and refining wellbeing coaching curricula, as well as promoting and evaluating the coaching program in partnership with the wellbeing department and other key stakeholders to enhance holistic wellbeing service offerings. While this role does not include formal leadership responsibilities, it requires a proactive and collaborative approach to program management.

Essential Functions

  • Assumes day-to-day oversight for the development and delivery of wellbeing coaching programs and services through consistent application of policies, procedures, protocols and standards, assuring high quality coaching programs and services are delivered to Corewell Health team member clients.

  • Supports the Manager with varying operational duties: budget preparation; coach hiring, training, mentoring and performance; budget review; program objectives, development, implementation, and evaluation; etc.

  • Provides telephonic, virtual or in-person coaching, consultation, education, and referral services to team members seeking well-being coaching services.

  • Delivers both 1:1 coaching to individual team members or facilitates varying size group coaching, attracting participants to join interactive discussions, explore personal relevance to specific topics, and consider action planning for the improvement of individual and/or team wellbeing.

  • Demonstrates an ability to deliver effective 1:1 coaching in a manner that promotes behavior change, assessing participant needs, strengths, readiness for change and self-efficacy. Utilize readiness for change, locus of control assessments, motivational interviewing, and other techniques to guide care.

  • Assists participants in forming solutions for present problems and determine realistic goals. Document goals, interventions and outcomes in the coach tracking forms.

  • Assesses and continuously develops coaching curricula in collaboration with the coaching team and wellbeing department to strengthen a culture of team member wellbeing.

  • Effectively promotes the coaching program through varying internal communication channels, demonstrating skills in team member engagement, creative marketing, written content, presentation delivery, etc.

  • Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, implementing improvements as necessary to meet team member needs and organizational objectives.

  • Administers and coordinates the activities of contracted consultant coaches, ensuring alignment with program goals and standards. Serve as a key liaison between the well-being department and the coaching team, facilitating effective communication and collaboration.

  • Stays up to date on the latest trends and best practices in wellbeing coaching to continuously elevate the program's impact.

Qualifications

Required

  • ICF or NBHWC Health and Wellness Certified Coach or comparable organization certification

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent health education, nutrition, exercise physiology, nursing, advanced practice provider, or other health related field

  • 3 years of relevant experience as a health coach in a healthcare setting

  • experience in direct education and/or coaching of individuals for disease prevention, health promotion and behavior change

  • 2 years of relevant experience acting as a supervisor or lead to oversee the full spectrum of planning, delivery and evaluation of programming

Preferred

  • Master's Degree health care or business administration or other health related field

  • Experience in PC-based word processing and database documentation (Word, Excel, Internet, Outlook)

  • Current knowledge of disease prevention (cardiovascular and diabetes) and basic understanding of exercise principles, nutrition and weight management

  • Knowledge of specific disease and lifestyle related topics such as smoking cessation, weight management, nutrition, pre-post natal care, stress reduction and chronic conditions.
