The Senior Development Scientist for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for completing assignments requiring independent thought, judgment, and initiative. Candidate should require a limited degree of supervision for routine work and general instructions, with guidance on new assignments. Candidate should be able to assist in developing new techniques and procedures that lead to greater departmental efficiency. All work must also meet regulatory requirements and follow company policies and procedures.

This position is a part of the Lumigen Research & Development Department located in Southfield, MI and will be an on-site position . You will report to the Senior Manager of Development Science responsible for the R&D functions at Lumigen. In this role, you will have the following opportunities, but are not limited to:

  • Work as part of a diverse team of dedicated individuals.

  • Work with cross-functional teams on highly complex problems.

  • Execute and document laboratory experiments to develop products and processes relevant to Lumigen projects.

  • Analyze and report experimental results to a multifunctional, multisite project team.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Master’s degree in organic chemistry with 6+ years of experience, or preferably Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry with 0-3 years of relevant scientific experience.

  • Strong skills in organic synthesis and general organic chemistry research techniques.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, analyze and draw conclusions from scientific experiments .

  • Good problem-solving and data analysis skills.

  • Good time management skills.

It would be a plus if you also possess:

  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently to meet project timelines and department goals.

  • Ability to quickly prioritize, organize workload and work well in a team setting.

  • Experience with scientific instrumentation.

  • Experience with statistical software.

  • Understanding of ISO 9001 .

  • Knowledge of new product development process.
