Sierra Nevada Corporation Engineering Manager I - Test Lead in Southern Pines, North Carolina
As an Engineering Manager, you will be using your skills and expertise to manage functional teams through program execution for our products and services. These cover a very wide range from advanced mission payloads and electronic systems through highly integrated aircraft to orbital and space exploration systems. You will represent the engineering department at all management level meetings. You'll ensure that the engineering design, documentation, and approvals meet the program schedules, are obtained in a timely manner and that engineering hours expended are productive, meeting program goals and budgets. You will own and continuously improve processes and procedures, oversee training of staff and provide technical direction as required.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing the test team, forecasting resources, and determining the single testing methodology that bridges the gap between functional test (QA) and MIL-STD (C2 and Non-C2) in the development life cycle, through delivery and sustainment of TRAX SW products across the multiple portfolios. This includes writing formal Software Test Plans (STPs), Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The TRAX Lead Test Engineer is responsible for the development and the design of any Special Test Equipment (STE) and fixtures in support of development and production testing.
The Mission Solutions and Technologies (MST) business area provides affordable, turn-key command/control, communications, integrated ISR, force protection and security solutions worldwide. The MST team has a long legacy of supporting the Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, commercial and international customers with years of experience in platform operations, engineering and full lifecycle management across domains – air, land, sea, space and cyber.
Responsibilities:
Responsible for prioritizing test requirements, analyzing test schedule, optimizing test resources and availability, while collaborating with PMO to minimize risk, changes to scope, changes to schedule and delays in delivery to customers.
Responsible for developing formal test procedures for tactical data links and related software.
Develop and maintain all related test procedure documentation.
Maintain a high level of competence by staying abreast of state-of-the-art testing methods and technologies.
Interface directly with the Program Managers, Systems Engineers and Engineering Service Managers to assist in the development and execution of Test procedures and Acceptance Testing.
Attend and participate in Engineering design reviews to contribute to the understanding of test requirements.
Prepare Test Plans, Procedures and Reports assuring that they support the program test requirements.
Provide support and development for off-site environmental, integration and acceptance testing requirements.
Additional Responsibilities Include:

Essential Functions:

Ability to travel up to 25% of time.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Bachelor's of Science degree in a related discipline
Typically, 10+ years of progressive engineering experience, which includes 6+ years of management experience.
Advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices
Extensive experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation
Thorough Understanding of engineering principles and practices
Experience with Computer Aided Engineering tools, analysis and simulation
Ability to work in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and systems integration
Experience with planning, conducting and documenting Verification and Validation (V&V) activities
Experience in writing software test/regression plans, procedures and reports.
Thorough technical understanding of testing methodologies and state-of-the-art automated and semi-automated test equipment.
Ability to prepare complex test procedures with a test equipment and tools.
Technical problem solving skills and ability to develop innovative technical solutions.
Ability to work successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
Ability to manage, professional develop and forecast test engineer resources
Excellent communication skills to work with and understand unfamiliar systems as described to you by an SME.
The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. Security Clearance is required
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience in testing: Link-16, Joint Range Application Extension Protocol (JREAP), Situational Awareness Data Link (SADL),Variable Message Format (VMF) testing.
Previous management experience; exposure to recruiting employees; assigning, directing, and evaluating their work; and overseeing the development and maintenance of staff competence
Experience with identifying and coordinating resources to ensure the required tools, processes, and training are available/effective and programs are staffed and supported to achieve success
Understanding of how to prepare project schedules, budgets, bids, and estimates for proposed program work packages as it pertains to testing activities.
Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry, the US Department of Defense or US Military
Ability to motivate/work with others
Prior exposure to working successfully in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment emphasizing rapid prototyping and fielding of capabilities, with minimal supervision
