Position Summary

This full-time hourly position is responsible for assisting the Food Safety and Quality Manager and HACCP team to maintain quality compliance internally as well as externally regarding Quality Assurance and Food Safety Management programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform Laboratory tests to produce reliable and precise data that will be utilized to hold or release product from a computerized inventory system.

  • Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment, for example, Moisture analyzers, water activity units, and Mycotoxin meter.

  • Inventory parts and supply stock to ensure the laboratory is well stocked and resourced.

  • Use computers and perform mathematical calculations for the preparations of graphs and the analysis of data collected.

  • Manage the Environmental Testing program.

  • Collect and analyze data from third party labs to be utilized for equipment calibrations and problem solving.

  • Daily Review and Audit of production paperwork for accuracy, completeness and compliance to requirements. (logs, work orders, inspections, job tickets)

  • Review all incoming material inspections for compliance to specifications.

  • Review all supplier provided Certificate-s of Analysis for compliance to Specification requirements.

  • Completes Material reviews on all quality issues related to product, packaging, processes and equipment.

  • Escalates Material Review to a SCAR when necessary.

  • Manages the Corrective and Preventive action plan.

  • Works with Quality Manager to ensure necessary Internal Corrective actions are issued and completed in a timely manner.

  • Monitor and manage the Quality Hold Program to ensure materials are properly inspected, labeled and logged in QMS.

  • Monitor staff compliance to GMP-s, processes, procedures and food safety and quality programs.

  • Provides support to production staff when needed.

  • Participate in process improvement and kaizen projects.

  • Obtain HACCP certification, participate and contribute in Food Safety Team meetings and events.

  • Participate in Mock Recall events

  • Create and develop standard operating procedures (SOP-s) for production, quality and sanitation programs as needed.

  • Audit for compliance to SOP-s.

  • Follow company GMP-s at all times.

  • Work with Quality Manager and QA Team to help further develop Quality initiatives.

  • Professionally communicate with Suppliers, customers, third party laboratories and across all departments

  • Maintain a Clean and Orderly Quality lab in line with Standard Laboratory Practices.

  • Other duties as assigned

Safety

  • Completes safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to the Environmental Health & Safety Manager

  • Responsible to participate in mandatory safety training program requirements.

  • Required to report all safety issues, near misses, and injuries.

Quality & Food Safety

  • Completes quality and food safety system documentation and verifies compliance to program standards. Reports deviations to the Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager.

  • Responsible to participate in mandatory food safety and quality training program requirements.

  • Preserves the integrity of the BRC system through adherence to the policies and procedures outlined in the Quality Policy Manual. Takes actions necessary to resolve food safety and quality system deficiencies.

  • Required to report food safety and quality system failures and take actions necessary to preserve the BRC system.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor-s degree in a scientific field (Chemistry, Biology, Food Science, Microbiology)

  • Required to read and write English.

  • Must have strong computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).

  • Good math and analytical skills.

  • Good communication skills (oral and written).

  • Ability to work well with others across the organization and project positive behavior.

  • Self- motivated and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations.

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility.

  • Exposed to shop elements such as noise, dust, odors, fumes, oils and greases.

  • Ability to drive vehicle during the workday is required.
