EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Asbestos) in South Portland, ME. The technician supports the laboratory analysts by preparing samples for analysis. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Preparation of environmental samples prior to analysis for Bulk Sample Gravimetric Prep, TEM Microvac and Wipe Prep, TEM Water Prep and any areas of prep related to client workOther laboratory duties such as sample archiving and disposition, and TEM grid preparation Perform standard and non-standard laboratory prep procedures according to internal Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Receive environmental samples and enter Chain of Custody into LIMS system Must have good laboratory practicesAssist with laboratory organization, supply inventory, calibrations, and cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipmentAssist with light cleaning of laboratory when needed Clerical duties such as answering phones, filing, faxing, assisting clients, scanning, and mailing as necessary Other laboratory duties as deemed appropriate to assist in the overall functioning of the lab may be assigned by lab staff and management as neededRequirements:High School degree/equivalent or Associates Degree in Life Science or 2 years of college course work completedOne to two years’ of previous academic or commercial lab experience a plusCandidate must be able to distinguish colors in order to perform subsampling procedureAble to work independently and with a teamAbility to work in a fast-paced setting, multi-task, and prioritize assignmentGood communication, computer, typing, and organizational skillsAvailable Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.EMSL offers full time benefits: medical, dental, 401(k), voluntary benefits, paid time off, holiday pay and a flexible spending account.
