Generac Power Systems Embedded Software Engineer III in South Portland, Maine

Generac’s Clean Energy team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer (level III) who has extensive experience in Python on an embedded Linux platform. As a senior member of the team, you will be developing and testing power generation control systems that can be remotely controlled and monitored using web and mobile technology solutions. This role is a senior position that will participate in planning and estimating of software development tasks and will provide technical guidance and mentoring to lesser experienced engineers
Position can be located onsite in either Reno NV or N. Billerica MA or South Portland ME. If you are not already living in one of these areas, you must be willing to relocate.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop, enhance and debug new and existing software components written in Python and Rust on an embedded Linux platform.
Apply industry best practices to deliver simple, high-quality software that is well tested, documented and meets requirements.
Write automated tests and integrate them into a continuous integration environment.
Improve firmware development process for performance, scalability, robustness, and traceability.
Collaborate and integrate with firmware teams, manufacturing-test, and cloud infrastructure teams to develop fully-integrated systems.
Participate in sprints and associated scrum meetings.
Perform code reviews, and review peer contributions in pull requests to improve code quality across the team.
Delivery of software for products at scale.
Minimal Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in software development and device communication.
Extensive experience with Python scripting in embedded Linux environments
Extensive experience with Linux application development in C and Python on embedded devices.
Demonstrated success in software validation development (unit test, smoke tests, and automated regression
Proficiency in Python for testing, emulation, and other purposes.
Excellent software fundamentals including architectural design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability.
Experience leading design and implementation of software components in a professional context.
Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Yocto Linux, Linux system configuration, systemd, shell scripting is highly desired.
Familiarity with MQTT and Protocol buffers is a bonus.
Familiarity with AWS IoT, Lambda and EC2 is preferred.
Prior experience in power electronics, or battery product development is a plus.
Prior experience in real-time operating systems and functional safety is desired.
C++ or Rust is a bonus
Software validation in SIL/HIL
