The South Hill Police Department (SHPD) is community driven with a family-oriented culture. We listen, empower and support growth and prioritize training. SHPD has undergone a major upgrade to equipment and infrastructure over the past several years. Our department recently became an accredited agency with VLEPSC. We provide services to a town of approximately 5000 residents and see thousands of visitors each week from our two exits off of interstate 85 and from US 58.
We offer a starting salary of $44,000 per year for non-certified. We offer certified officers a salary range of$51,000-$60,000 with 2% for every year as a certified law enforcement officer with a maximum of ten years' experience.Our field officers work twelve-hour shifts with every other weekend off. We have opportunities for overtime work, and court overtime.
We offer excellent benefits to include Health, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, Paid Holidays and a retirement program through Virginia Retirement System with hazardous duty benefits paid. Officers are provideduniforms, and equipment is furnished both during initial training and on the job, and areassigned cars to take home within 35 road miles of the town limits.
