THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for an Aircraft Mechanic, Position Description Number D1525000 and is part of the 158th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron of the Vermont Air National Guard.

Responsibilities

(1) Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Work is performed in complex working conditions under time and/or mission constraints to include all weather and night operations. Works with, coordinates and oversees the work of subordinate aircraft mechanics. Coordinates and oversees the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Reviews, trains and prepares to perform battle damage assessment/repair. Participates in mission generation/regeneration operations. Directs multiple specialists in preparing aircraft for combat operations.

(2) Controls and performs work assignments based upon priorities, workload, availability of parts, facilities, material and personnel. Assigns maintenance and repair functions to subordinate mechanics. Coordinates with production control to direct short notice availability of the aircraft to accomplish work on delayed discrepancies and other scheduled maintenance to meet mission requirements. Observes and inspects performance and work procedures to insure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Accomplishes operational tests of aircraft systems and components. Directs and performs the ground movement of aircraft.

(3) Performs end of runway inspection. Installs, removes, inspects and adjusts aerial delivery systems to mission requirements. Makes diagnoses and solves malfunctions of aircraft systems and components by utilizing a wide variety of complex state of the art computerized and/or non computerized diagnostic and precision equipment, by studying layout drawings, blueprints and wiring diagrams and by analyzing construction and operating characteristics of aircraft and their components. Performs or oversees maintenance such as troubleshooting, removing, repairing, replacing, rigging, aligning, cleaning, painting and corrosion control. May be required to assist DEPOT level maintenance activities on individual assigned aircraft discrepancies. Ensures all mission associated support (-21) equipment is available and serviceable for deployment and employment.

Military Grade: Military grade will be individually addressed up to E7.

Compatible Military Assignments: 2A3X7

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-06: Must have a minimum of 9 months: Experience in the use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-08: Must have a minimum of 12 months: Experience in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-10: Must have a minimum of 18 months: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE WG-12: Must have a minimum of 24 months: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • In order to be eligible, applicants must have a current military status. Prior service or non-prior service applicants are not eligible.

  • Mandatory knowledge, education, and experience of AFI 36-2101 must be met.

  • Minimum aptitude score of "47" in MECH and normal color vision and the ability to lift 70 pounds is mandatory. Minimum physical profile of P3, U3, L3, H1, E3, and S2 is mandatory.

  • Selected individual must currently possess the 2A3X7 AFSC, attain a training waiver or be wiling to attend Technical Training School to be awarded the 2A3X7 AFSC.
