Job Description

IFF is looking for a Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator to join our team at the IFF South Brunswick, NJ site. This IFF location manufactures flavor ingredients that can be found in consumer products that people across the U.S. and around the world use every day.

In this role you will share responsibly for the overall implementation of site systems to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate H&S standards with the H&S Manager. The Process Safety Management (PSM) Coordinator works closely with all facility personnel to ensure full compliance with OSHA General Industry standards. This position reports to the Site H&S Manager and offers many opportunities to grow professionally.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage site’s H&S policies that define requirements to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements and Corporate H&S standards.

  • Develop and implement improvements to safety systems to ensure compliance with requirements and continued improvement in H&S performance. Manage H&S projects as assigned.

  • Organize, lead, and participate in activities that promote employee ownership and engagement in H&S.

  • Manage site incident investigation system, ensuring proper classification, thorough root cause investigations and appropriate corrective actions are implemented to prevent recurrence.

  • Provide in-plant support to site leadership, operators, mechanics, contractors, and technical staff to ensure proper safety evaluation is performed and work is completed within requirements.

  • Complete routine field line walks (observe and engage) to provide recognition, coaching, collaboration, and training.

  • Gather data and maintain systems to track necessary information for internal health and safety reporting and to drive improvement in H&S performance.

  • Develop and improve safety training, including online computer courses, to educate site personnel on H&S-related issues. Ensure H&S training is effective in sharing safety know-how needed to achieve world class safe operations.

  • Provide training and support as needed to all departments based on the annual H&S training program to implement the applicable IFF global regulatory policies.

  • Implement case management, working closely with site leadership and the site’s medical case manager to manage injuries/illnesses effectively. Ensure proper injury/illness classifications and OSHA recordkeeping are completed.

  • Coordinate annual medical exams, respirator evaluations, and respirator fit testing.

  • Ensure that clear and effective emergency plans are in place in such a way that risks for people and IFF are minimized. Update and maintain site’s Emergency Response Plan.

  • Manage South Brunswick response teams, which include Confined Space, HazMat, First Aid, and Fire Brigade.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Associate degree with five or more years’ H&S experience.

  • Demonstrated H&S functional/technical expertise with strong working knowledge of OSHA General Industry regulations.

  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to work effectively, professionally, and respectfully in a team-based environment to involve peers, customers, line management and technical competency experts.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence teams and resolve conflicts in support of organizational goals.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to train personnel as it relates to OSHA and Corporate-wide safety requirements.

  • Experience implementing & maintaining site wide safety-related programs.

  • Computer and technical literacy; demonstrated skill in use of Microsoft Office software (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Excel).

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.

  • HAZWOPER certified.

  • 30-Hour General Industry Safety & Health certified.
