VILLAGE OF SOUTH BLOOMFIELD CORP Police Officer in South Bloomfield, Ohio

Police Officer-

  • OPOTA CERTIFICATION REQUIRED PRIOR TO CONSIDERATION

We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our law enforcement team as Police Officers. As a Police Officer, you will play a crucial role in maintaining public safety and upholding the law within our community.

Prepares for duty by ensuring all personal equipment is serviceable, functional and operates as desired. Officers must ensure duty vehicles are serviceable, functional and clean. Any discrepancies must be reported to the shift supervisor at once. Officers must interact positively with the community to promote good agency/ public relations, and act on concerns of the public.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to calls for service by using training, knowledge and experience, driving safely to scene of call and quickly determines the type of service needed
  • Evaluates scene of call, assesses victims, suspects and surroundings to determine the type of action needed
  • Investigates reports of crimes -- collects information and evidence
  • Intervenes in disputes by actively listening to involved parties, maintaining visual contact with disputants, and asking relevant questions to determine the most appropriate strategy to protect the public and mediate disputes.
  • Conducts searches of vehicles, premises and suspects for collection of evidence
  • Pursues suspects, effect an arrest, keeping in mind applicable laws and department policy as to the safety of that officer, other officers or public safety personnel, and above all, the civilian population the department is sworn to protect.
  • Apprehends and/or charges persons responsible for criminal or traffic violations; confirms and executes existing warrants through the Law Enforcement Automated Data System (LEADS).
  • May be called to court as a testifying officer, service of court orders and subpoenas
  • Facilitates medical or mental health treatment and social services for individuals and arranges the transportation of individuals to these facilities.
  • Knowledge of the Ohio Revised Code, the ordinances of the Village of South Bloomfield, and basic knowledge of constitutional law.
  • Possess knowledge to prepare official forms and reports for submission to appropriate section
  • Responds to disasters as a first responder; manages evacuations, controls traffic in disaster areas and uses protective equipment where hazardous materials may be present.
  • Continuously learns, reviews, and stays up to date on current department policies, trainings, and procedures; maintains first aid, firearms, and other required certifications; maintains annual Continuing Professional Education as required by the State of Ohio.
  • Knowledge of de-escalation and conflict resolution tactics are a must
  • Ability to perform, in word and deed, to resolve situations
  • The ability to learn and understand rules, policies, regulations

Minimum qualifications-

Completion of the twelfth school grade. Substitution(s): A certificate of high school equivalency (GED) will be accepted in lieu of the educational requirement.

OPOTA Certification (Police Academy)

Applicants must be at least 20 years old when applying, and at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license when applying and a valid Ohio motor vehicle operator's license at the time of appointment.

A citizen of the United States.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.53- $31-78

Expected hours: 40 per week
