Additional Responsibilities of a QA Lab technician
- QA lab tech crews have to complete the dimensional measurements and the core shifts on all presses at least once per shift . They also have to complete Xrite checks from each producing machine.
If issues/defects are found during the line check:
The QA is to write down any molding defects, cavity #s, reason for machine downtime, production on hold, and any other comments to explain the situation in the General Comments column on the Molding QA Check Sheet.
Call a Mold Tech to get the issue/defect fixed.
Product that is non-conforming is put into scrap or regrind containers, depending upon the type of defect(s) (see Scrap Procedure for Molding - SYRWI-00051)
If QA determines more than 50% of the product at the press shows non-conformity, then place all product at the press into appropriate bins (scrap or regrind).
If QA determines less than 50% of the product at the press shows non-conformity, then sort through all product at the press, putting any nonconforming product that is found into appropriate bins (scrap or regrind).
The QA then goes to the warehouse and inspects the highest case number on the most recently produced pallet or case(s) on the conveyor belt. If the non-conformity is found, then go to the middle case number of that case/pallet. If the non-conformity is found, then go to the lowest case number of that case/pallet. Once the starting point of the defect is found on that case/pallet, it is put on hold following Placing Product On Hold - QA (SYRWI-00002)
The QA continues to check the lowest case number of the previously produced pallet (i.e. ‘next oldest pallet’) until the non-conformity is no longer found. All pallets with the non-conformity found are put on hold following Placing Product On Hold - QA (SYRWI-00002).
The QA must write the NCMR number and how many cases were put on hold in the General Comments column on the Molding QA Check Sheet (SYRFCD-00030). The QA must also attach a copy of the NCMR to the Molding QA Check Sheet.
Once the QA contains all the non-conforming product in the warehouse, they must go back to the press where the defect was originally found and complete a quality check. The QA must also write in the General Comments column if the defect is no longer present or if the defect/issue is still there.
If the defect is still there, follow the steps until the defect/issue has been corrected.
In the case of an absence, Lab techs will be cross trained to cover Floor tech and printing.
