Hospice of the Central Peninsula Bereavement Coordinator in Soldotna, Alaska
Overall Function:
To directly provide and coordinate the provision of bereavement/grief support services for hospice patients and families consistent with the Alaska State requirements for a Volunteer Hospice and National Standards of Practice for Hospice Programs. To integrate grief support into the work of the Hospice interdisciplinary team.
Supervision:
The Bereavement Coordinator is supervised by the Executive Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, nursing, or related field preferred. Commensurate experience considered.
- Prefer two (2) years experience in family and individual counseling with additional training in children's counseling.
- Knowledge of grief and bereavement counseling; understanding of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of terminally ill patients and caregivers. Prefer at least one (1) year providing services to the terminally ill and/or bereaved.
- Must be sensitive to the human needs and situations encountered in the provision of hospice and bereavement care.
- Demonstrates skill in leading groups and teams. Ability to mentor volunteers and interns in the provision of quality bereavement care.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. Excellent listening, documentation, and record keeping skills.
- Maintain a positive and professional image and demonstrate self-directed learning to meet professional development and/or license requirements.
- Computer literate and capable of utilizing media presentation software, social media, and internet services.
- Demonstrates skill and comfort in public speaking.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work flexible work hours, including evening and weekends as deemed necessary.
- Must pass Federal and State of Alaska background screening. Must possess a valid driver's license to conduct company business, driving record and insured in accordance with state and hospice requirement to conduct company business.
- Ability to lift, carry, maneuver items between 25-50 pounds.
Responsibilities:
- Ensures that bereavement services and correspondence are offered to Hospice clients/family according to State Regulations.
- Directly provides short term individual and family bereavement/grief support and assessment services to hospice clients and families.
- Maintains office hours as deemed necessary by the Hospice team.
- Assesses needs of the community for bereavement services and develops/implements needed programs and groups as appropriate and as resources are available.
- Coordinates the bereavement volunteer program.
- Recruits, trains, and supervises facilitators for bereavement groups.
- Coordinates workshops, presentations, health fairs, and bereavement groups.
- Liaison between bereavement volunteers and Hospice team.
- Meets community bereavement needs and provides information and resources as requested.
- Works with community groups, organizations, and services whose programs and goals complement and/or supplement bereavement services, i.e., schools, hospitals, churches, and other social service agencies.
- Facilitates and supports agency and community memorial service programs.
- Camp Mend-A-Heart Director
- Plans and manages functions of children's camp to include marketing, retaining facility, recruiting and training volunteers, program development, inventory of supplies, and works with Executive Director regarding camp budget.
- Work with the Executive Director on a five-year expansion plan of Camp Mend-A-Heart.
- Oversee the development and coordination of bereavement print and web-based resources including but not limited to literature, books, videos, newsletters, and other educational resources
