Anticipated period of employment: 07/15/2024 to 11/15/2024.
The Worker will care for young nonproducing fruit trees including but not limited to weeding, hoeing, trunk painting, hand fertilizing and growth selection by hand and clipping. Hand thinning of apple and cherry trees to ensure proper fruit load on tree. Pruning of apple and cherry trees. Training of apple and cherry trees to trellis, including clipping and tying limbs and shoots to wire. Training and limb positioning of apple and cherry trees. Provide general orchard labor to assist in the establishment of new orchard properties by clearing property, planting trees, building trellis, repair and spreading of composted material and any other labor considered necessary for the efficient structure of new orchard properties. Care for trees during growing process, recognize tree disease such as of blighted branches in apples and gummosis in cherries. Harvest preparation includes spreading liners in bins, rolling bins into blocks by hand. Propping and tying of apple and cherry trees and limbs. Pruning and thinning may be done from the ground or ladder up to 12 feet in height, or from a motorized platform. Employer provides all necessary tools. Repair sprinklers on overhead cooling system Farm clean up tasks to include picking up garbage around the orchard, removing old string and wire from trellis and orchard blocks, and other hand tasks. The Worker must be adept at safely placing and using ladders. Some work will be done from an aluminum ladder up to 12 feet in height. Stand and tape trees to bamboo or fiberglass stakes. De-leafing- grasping tree truck and sliding hands to remove leaves. De-limbing/sucker removal bending at the waist or stopping/standing while using small pruners or knives to remove lower limbs on new trees. Tying, taping, or clipping trees or limbs to wires. Care for trees during growing process and recognize tree disease such as fire blight. De-leaf, de-limbing, pruning, tying, etc. may be done from the ground or from a motorized platform. Help layout, repair, and maintain irrigation.
