Summer Intern – Manufacturing Engineer

Allegion provides college students with challenging summer internship assignments and valuable exposure to our company's senior leaders. Through meaningful work projects, our interns are empowered to build diverse skill sets and a strong foundation for a successful and fulfilling career.

The scope is for the intern to learn Allegion and TGP processes and procedures while focusing on the key metrics of manufacturing (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost). The intern will also become familiar with TGP systems and running projects.

What you will do:

Develop and utilize classical I.E. techniques such as:

  • Machine capacity analysis and strategies for improvement

  • Develop and maintain engineered time standards

  • Study, analyze, present and implement agreed upon improvement recommendations

  • Work with plant engineers to justify and implement capital expenditure projects.

  • Communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization

  • Set and achieve goals with minimum supervision

  • Perform time studies to reduce non-value added motion. Meet with key operators to review findings and redesign workstation.

  • Rebalance the operator work content within the bottleneck operation

  • Reconfigure/redesign an operation to allow the operators to perform work more efficiently

  • Design, develop, and implement pull systems through entire department value stream

  • Create manual simulation (work instructions) to aide in pull system design and train key operators

  • Ability to work with a diverse cross-section of individuals

What you need to succeed:

  • Pursuing a bachelor's or master’s degree in electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering

  • Sophomore year must be complete by the start of the summer internship program for undergraduate candidates.

  • Minimum 3.0 on 4.0 GPA scale.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and initiative (e.g. school club officer, sports team captain, resident advisor, etc. or exceptional leadership on school/work projects).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint & AutoCad

  • Prioritization and planning skills

  • Strong problem solving skills

  • Team oriented

  • Self-motivated

  • Resiliency and ability to adapt quickly

  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly in an environment where heavy work is required and where moderate to loud noise occurs. The employee is in an assembly plant/warehouse environment that can be dusty. May be working around welding operations. Overhead work may be required. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, twist, bend, lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and occasionally lift and move very heavy objects (up to 100 pounds) and perform other similar actions during the course of the work day. Production aids such as tilting assembly tables, overhead cranes and forklifts can be used for these tasks. Personal protective equipment will be required and provided. In addition, the individual in this job will be working under time pressure and must be able to perform under stress. They must be able to work rapidly for long periods and to communicate and interact with others. They also must be able to perform multiple concurrent tasks, read and comprehend the material they read. The employee must be able to write, and problem solve. 40+ hours per week will typically be necessary to accomplish performance objectives and to provide satisfactory job presence and/or responsiveness

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experiences.

The expected Base Hourly Range: $25-26. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
