The Senior Cost Accountant performs various cost accounting reconciliation and reporting activities associated with inventory valuations, material purchases and labor and overhead application and utilization. The Senior Cost Accountant is required to interface with both financial and manufacturing personnel with respect to the collection, control and analysis and reporting of cost accounting data. Hybrid/ Local The current expecation is to be onsite 1 day per month, but that may increase in the future based on company needs/ hybrid policy. Responsibilities Inventory control and accuracy; product structure maintenance and approval; product costs maintenance and approval. Participation as an active member of the Operations team. Preparation of periodic financial/accounting information in an accurate, timely and effective manner. Review procedural compliance and initiate improvements where necessary to internal control procedures in order to safeguard company assets/resources. Conducts audits and reviews of financial and operational control activities. Regularly reviews Freight Spend while ensuring proper approvals and carrier accounts are current. Provides analysis of all material, labor and overhead variances. Assists with cycle count audits, approvals, and reporting to Operations and Financial management. Recommends improvements to systems and process to better provide cost information to meet organizational objectives. Supports cost accounting with other financial analysis as requested. Trains and explains cost accounting policies and procedures to manufacturing managers and personnel. Trains manufacturing personnel to work within the manufacturing operating system to improve quality and reliability of cost data in accordance with Spacelabs Medical's policies and procedures. Establishes and maintains cost information for use in 1) establishing standard costs; 2) valuing inventory; and 3) measuring profitability and waste. Participates in month end close activities, prepares journal vouchers, account reconciliations and other requested activities. Maintains the accuracy of the general ledger and financial reporting. Produces reports in support of month end close, and other reports as required. Assists in preparing monthly forecast and annual budget. Assists the Cost Accounting Manager in special projects and all other duties as assigned.
