This position is accountable for monitoring the operation of the Automation Control System of the Auto Catalyst Coating production line. Position requires specific emphasis on obtaining maximum equipment utilization and production efficiency. This position reports to the Automation Engineer. This individual will be responsible for providing Automations and Control Systems support to Production and Maintenance department employees in the troubleshooting and repair of equipment issues. In addition, the position includes responsibility for control system documentation, program modifications and Maintenance support of manufacturing and building support equipment.

Your responsibilities:

  • Ensure that JM Environmental, Health, and Safety policies are followed at all times.

  • Provide technical assistance to Manufacturing and Maintenance employees to ensure equipment is operating at maximum production output levels.

  • Recognize, analyse and correct automations related equipment issues.

  • Provide Maintenance Technicians with concise control systems repair solutions.

  • Perform repairs, adjustments, etc. to automated electrical equipment components such as Servo Drive Systems, Variable Frequency Drives, HMI Devices, Integrated Computer Terminals and Programmable Logic Controllers

  • Work with outside vendors to solve and correct application issues with automation control system.

  • Train and instruct others in programming, troubleshooting and proper Maintenance repair techniques.

  • Plan and organize workload effectively and efficiently to support manufacturing production requirements.

  • Develop a complete understanding of the Johnson Matthey manufacturing processes and quality control requirements.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Overtime and some travel required.

  • Emphasis to be placed on Johnson Matthey Life Saving Policies (LSP) for Electrical Isolation, Guarding of Dangerous Machinery, Managing Change, Permit to Work and Process and Mechanical Isolation as well as all other LSPs

Requirements for the role:

  • Associates degree in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or Computer Science.

  • 1-3 years related experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Ability to guide cross functional team to timely completion of objectives

  • Comprehensive aptitude in Industrial Electricity preferred.

  • Experience with the installation, start-up and maintenance of high-volume automated production machinery.

  • Proven ability to understand, trouble shoot and correct automation issues with Programmable Logic Controllers and Peripheral Interface Devices.

  • Knowledge of PLC programming and Graphic Interface Software, and how it relates to the design and control of automated equipment.

  • Specific knowledge of Allen-Bradley PLC’s, Control Logix, RSlogix 5000, Devicenet, Controlnet, Ethernet, RF Networks, SCADA / HMI and SQL Server Databases is preferred.

  • Experience with Motoman Robotic operation and programming, Medium Voltage Motor Control Centers & Industrial Switchgear, Transformers & Power Distribution Buss Ways, Industrial Electrical Breaker Systems, Automatic Power Transfer Switches, Emergency Back-up Power Generation, Gas Fired Ovens, Conveyor Systems, VFDs, and Servo System Controls is preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Overtime and some travel required.
