Daktronics Metal Machine Operator and Painter (M-W 12hr shift) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Daktronics operates a metal fabrication and paint department to support our manufacturing process. This position works Monday – Wednesday 6:00am to 6:00pm. As a metal machine operator/painter you will be trained to perform all tasks of a metal machine operator and painter. This position includes standard base pay and a skill increment.

Metal/Paint staff working in the paint booth are required to pass a pulmonary function test to establish a baseline to monitor employee health. Daktronics provides fresh air positive pressure hoods for respiratory protection while painting.

Paint uniforms are provided and cleaned by a local service. A clothing change area is provided to eliminate the need to take contaminated clothing home.

Machine operation tasks consist of set up and operation of a variety of computer-controlled machines including:

  • Trumpf Sheet Metal Punch Press, and Press Breaks.

  • CMS Extrusion Mill.

  • Sander and inserter.

  • Utilize a number of tools and precision measuring instruments.

  • Interpret blueprints and instructions to produce quality product.

  • Perform basic math calculations.

    Paint tasks include:

  • Preparation of metal parts for painting.

  • Preparation, mixing, and spray application of primer and paints.

  • Application of single and multi-piece vinyl graphics.

  • Maintain the performance of the assigned Kremlin air-mix spray equipment.

  • Maintain the performance of their assigned 3M fresh air hoods.

    All metal/paint employees are expected to:

  • Work with minimal supervision.

  • Escalate process, machine, and quality issues to department leadership.

  • Troubleshoot process and equipment deficiencies.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance and 5s activities to o rganize and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  • Take instruction from the department leadership team.

  • Report accomplishments and constraints to the department leaders.

  • Communicate goals and priorities with co-workers.

  • Perform work in the order desired through communication with the department leaders.

  • Consistently produce a quality product.

  • Continuously seek methods to improve quality, productivity, and knowledge in the department.

  • Attend training as assigned to keep skills current.

  • Regularly and reliably work scheduled hours and volunteer for overtime as needed.

  • Flex to other departments as needed.

  • Become knowledgeable of company policies and procedures.

  • Maintain workplace safety by following safety procedures.

  • Read, understand, and follow instructions given on all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for products in the department,

  • Wear proper protective equipment as required in work area in accordance with Daktronics Safety Policy and OSHA standards including safety glasses, safety shoes/boots, hearing protection, and others as determined necessary by Daktronics Risk and Safety Department.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

    Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED required.

  • Ability to work with minimum supervision. 

  • Ability to successfully participate as a member of a team.

  • Ability to learn quickly. 

  • Good communication skills. Fluent in English, written and verbal.

  • Must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test annually.

  • Physical Abilities:

  • Work around solder, paint, solvents, and other paint materials. 

  • Distinguish and identify colors. 

  • Read fine print with or without corrective lenses.

  • Lift and carry heavy (up to 50 lbs.) and/or awkward items, and work with your hands and depending on workload.

  • Stand and/or sit for the full shift.
