Position Highlights

Become an Interventional Radiology Technologist at Avera McKennan. Perform a variety of complex specialized tasks eminent in operating radiographic equipment to perform vascular and neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures.

  • The interdisciplinary team consists of an Endovascular Surgery trained Vascular Neurologist, an Advanced Practice Provider, 18 Registered Nurses and 14 Registered Radiology/Cardiology Technologists.

A Brief Overview

​​The Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for performing specialized procedures using sterile techniques and specialized equipment.​

What you will do

  • Schedules procedures and appropriate patient preparations, prepares, positions and instructs patients and adjusts equipment for procedures.

  • Familiar with a wide variety of diagnostic and intervention procedures and oversees/coordinates with nursing staff, scrub techs and other techs or students throughout exam.

  • Produces satisfactory images via digital imaging or hard film and presents them satisfactorily for radiologist interpretation.

  • Maintains, orders, and evaluates products used for procedures.

  • Demonstrates high level of patient care skills to assist nursing staff with caring for critically ill patients.

  • Assists with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Radiology Department, Quality Department, Joint Commission accreditation, OSHA guidelines and others as required.

  • Able to monitor all Hemodynamics during procedures.

  • Understands human vasculature including cerebral circulation and anticipates the needs of the Physician supplies, equipment and medications as needed while maintaining a sterile environment.

  • Possesses the ability to comprehend and interpret complex clinical subject matter related to the specialty.

  • Demonstrates the ability to analyze data and formulate an appropriate plan of action and demonstrates critical thinking skills.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

  • Associate's Transcript showing Radiology Technology from two- college or technical school, or hospital based Radiologic Technology program

  • Cardiac Interventional Radiography (RI) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 60 Days

  • Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 60 Days
