TekSynap Database Specialist in Silver Spring, Maryland

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, designs, development, tests, edits, maintains, and documents web programs.

  • Designs and builds relational databases for data storage or processing.

  • Develops strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition, and archive recovery.

  • Cleans and maintains the database by removing and deleting old data.

  • May evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization's quality standards and ease of integration.

  • Provide guidance on data modeling and data management best practices

  • Develop methods to facilitate integration of data and tools with other enterprise solutions such as the new BAS Financial System.

  • Experience with required technologies to support existing and future applications, including: Nexsens X2 Data Management Software (DMS)(or similar software), Unidata Thredds server, OPeNDAP, NetCDF & Sensor Observation Service (SOS). Demonstrate experience with languages, including: JAVA, SQL, bash, Python, R, PHP & PERL.

  • Operate and refine CBIBS middleware including a web, business, and database tier

  • Design and develop software to support CBIBS (Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System) and the Integrated Ocean Observing System

  • Keep application and software configurations up to date

  • Configure the application servers including apache, wildfly, tomcat, and geoserver

  • Use a source code version control system

  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

  • Performs a variety of complicated tasks.

  • May lead and direct the work of others.

  • Typically reports to a project leader or manager.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • BS/BA degree

  • Demonstrate experience with languages, including: JAVA, SQL, bash, Python, R, PHP & PERL.SharePoint, Power, Platform development, Microsoft Project development.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Public Trust

We are seeking a Database Specialist to join our team supporting NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Office of Habitat Conservation (OHC) in Silver Spring, MD.

OHC is moving forward with a multi-year reorganization and consolidation of business tools, enterprise data, and business intelligence with the goal of supporting complex and growing program needs. TekSynap will provide support services to ensure a level of continuity throughout this process that includes planning, project management, solutions design, business analysis, user support and development support and maintenance.
