Job Description:

  • Classroom Preparation:
    • Provide a warm, safe, nurturing classroom environment for no more than 15 preschool students ages 3-5 years old.
    • Utilize the Teachers Aide for assistance in setting up, taking down and preparing for the next days activities.
    • Implement hands-on play based curriculum. May use either self-provided or those provided by Cactus Wren, to deliver developmentally appropriate learning activities.
      • No more than 1 worksheet style activity per day.
      • Implement songs/chants used by all Cactus Wren classes including:
        • Days of the Week, Months of the Year, Zoophonics, Learning Dynamics and Individual Letter Songs.
    • Prepare a weekly lesson plan that correlates activities to the Arizona Early Learning Standards. Lesson plans must be distributed to the Director, to parents and posted in the classroom on a weekly basis.
    • Manage behaviors in a positive, age appropriate and constructive way whenever possible.
    • Inform Director of materials needed at least 1 week in advance. May also utilize your monthly classroom budget to purchase materials.
    • Maintain a classroom setup that adheres to the ECERS-3 standards.
    • Develop a snack menu outlined by the Employee Handbook and distribute to parents.
    • Perform and document monthly fire drills according to the Arizona Department of Health Childcare Standard.
    • Maintain confidentiality of the students in your classroom.
  • Parent Communication:
    • Utilize Brightwheel messaging to communicate with parents regarding absences, illness, behaviors, questions, etc.
    • Develop a Parent/Student Orientation. Include classroom expectations for the year, first day of school, communicating with the teacher, supplies, drop off and pick up procedures.
    • Conduct Parent Teacher Conferences at minimum 1 time per year in the spring. You may also hold conferences in the fall if you feel it would benefit your families.
    • Responsible for enforcing the Cactus Wren Illness Policy (see Orientation Manual for complete policy). You must contact the parent to pick up a child when they show symptoms of illness at school. May use the Director or Assistant to the Director for support.
    • Provide parent feedback regarding any behavior or developmental concerns. Notify the Director and/or Assistant to the Director for support/resources and to addend any related conferences. (See Behavior Policy in Orientation Manual for complete details).
  • Use of Parent Volunteers:
    • Identify parents in your classroom to come in on a rotating basis to assist with administration of hands-on center activities and other classroom activities.
    • Invite at least 2 parent volunteers per month into the classroom, but you may utilize them as much as you prefer.
  • Performance Evaluation:
    • Teachers will be provided with ongoing informal evaluation and feedback throughout the school year.
    • One formal evaluation will be completed in the Spring.
    • Individualized professional development goals will be developed at the beginning of the year and reviewed on an ongoing basis throughout the year.
  • Portfolios:
    • Teachers are responsible for the creation and maintenance of portfolios for each student in their classroom. For students who are continuing from the previous year, their portfolio will travel with them from class to c ass.
    • Each child must have 2 entries per month.
    • Portfolios must follow Quality First Standards. (Template to be provided by Director to Teacher).
  • Attendance Requirements:
    • Clock in and out daily using Brightwheel.
    • Arrive to work on time. Schedule is either 8:00am-12:00pm for morning classes or 11:30am-3:30pm for the afternoon class.
    • Must complete 18 hours of training per school year (August to May).
    • Attend monthly Staff meeting and General Board Meeting.
    • Attend all outside school events.
    • You are responsible for finding your own substitute. You will be provided a contact list with substitute names and phone numbers. Once a substitute is acquired please notify the Director and Financial Director.
  • Requirements:
    • Must be 21 years of age.
    • Must obtain DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card.
    • Must maintain valid CPR/First aid Certification.
