Definition & Essential Functions:

  • Under general supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, performs routine building maintenance tasks. FLSA status: Non-Exempt. Tasks:

  • Performs building maintenance, repairs and installation of, including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, remodeling, painting, and cleaning.
  • Repairs or replaces light bulbs, ballasts, outlets, and switches.
  • Troubleshoots electrical wiring problems.
  • Repairs toilets, sinks, and faucets.
  • Drains, paints exterior and interiors.
  • Water seals exterior walls and seals roofs.
  • Services and maintains swamp coolers by changing pads, pumps, motors, and floats.
  • Replaces filters on HVAC units and assists in trouble shooting problems.
  • Remodels, and rebuilds offices from partitions to building walls.
  • Builds and installs cabinets, counters, and furniture.
  • Repairs automatic door openers, knobs, sign and ramps used for ADA compliance.
  • Work with Arizona Department of Corrections inmates.
  • This position is required to provide \"Stand by\" maintenance services, after normal working hours, as deemed necessary by the Facilities Supervisor.

Knowledges, Skills & Other Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of:
    • Blueprint reading.
    • Basic building maintenance repair procedures.
    • Basic remodeling procedures.
    • Equipment, materials, methods, and techniques used in building maintenance.
    • Occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary to perform facilities maintenance work.
    • In the operation of HVAC systems.
  • Skill in:
    • Performing routine building maintenance tasks involving basic electrical, plumbing, and carpentry skills.
    • Performing building maintenance tasks involving basic electrical, plumbing, painting & carpentry.
    • Scheduling and performing HVAC maintenance.
    • Following oral and written instructions.
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
  • Ability to:
    • Work under minimal supervision and in a team environment as required.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) years building maintenance experience, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry repairs.
  • Must have a valid Arizona driver license and clean driving record. Five (5) year driving history record required.
  • Must be able to pass Sierra Vista Police Department and Arizona Department of Corrections background check.
