Northwestern State University College of Nursing and School of Allied Health seeks an applicant for a 12-month full-time CRNA faculty position, Assistant Professor, for the nurse anesthesia degree programs available in Shreveport, Louisiana beginning Immediately.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be doctorally prepared.

  • Hold an unencumbered, Louisiana license as a registered nurse and advanced practice registered nurse.

  • Have current certification or recertification as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).

  • Must have experience in building practice-education partnerships.

  • Teaching experience at the doctoral nursing level is preferred.

  • Must show evidence of ongoing scholarly activity, adeptness at online educational technology.

  • Be eligible to serve as a full member of Northwestern State University's Graduate Faculty.

  • Willing to travel.

  • Must be able to pass a background check.

  • Must meet the required standards defined by the University.

Job Concepts

  • Assists with the coordination, and delivery of the Nurse Anesthesia program curriculum.

  • Ensures nurse anesthesia student clinical experiences are congruent with COA's Guidelines for Counting Clinical Experiences and CCN E's standards relating to direct practice clinical experiences as well LSBN's regulatory guidelines for advanced practice nursing.

  • Ensures the Nurse Anesthesia program is built upon CCNE's Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice and COA's Standards for Nurse Anesthesia Programs, the Practice Doctorate.

  • Recruits highly qualified BSN students.

  • Coordinates the delivery of quality didactic, simulation, and clinical learning experiences between two off-campus learning sites and multiple clinical agencies.

  • Actively participates in university and college of nursing committees.

  • Engages in scholarly activities appropriate to the academic role.

  • Ensures all graduates are educationally prepared to take the NBCRNA certification examination.

  • Actively engages in CRNA practice, professional development activities, and in scholarly activities appropriate to the discipline.

  • Provides quality advising of students during required hours and at other times and settings as established by the Program Director, Senior Director, Dean, Provost, or President.

  • Maintains collegial relationship with peers and colleagues throughout the University and community.

  • Provides quality education, advising, role-modeling of the nurse anesthetist professional role.

  • Fulfill other required duties of the department.

  • Teach all classes in a manner that will promote academic excellence to the fullest extent.

  • Provide instruction in areas of expertise.

  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies appropriate to domain of learning.

  • Serve as a role model to students and peers.

  • Assist with development, evaluation and revision of curriculum, and policies and procedures within the College of Nursing.

  • Maintain required office hours.

  • Maintain good attendance.

  • Assist with development, evaluation and revision of curriculum, and policies and procedures within the College of Nursing.

  • Supervise and evaluate student learning experiences.

  • Serve as an advisor and mentor for students in the College of Nursing.

  • Advises students interested in the program and those currently in the program in regard to curriculum and APDG requirements.
