Indian Health Service Medical Support Assistant in Shiprock, New Mexico

Summary This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) Division of Nursing Services, Pediatric Branch, Shiprock, NM. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of clerical duties associated with the care and treatment of patients. Responsibilities Performs receptionist duties, record keeping, maintaining unit log; patient census; and other related clerical duties; receives patients to the unit; reviews nurses' admission notes for patient allergies and posts allergy labels, check charts and files appropriate records; prepares authorization forms for surgery and other procedures, interprets process as required; utilizes computer systems such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Resources Patient Management Systems (RPMS); files results of various tests and records physician's orders in patient record; schedule clinical appointments by coordinating with outpatient clinics. Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program; assist the Nursing staff in orientation of new personnel. Orders supplies by established methods and procedures, maintains proper supply levels; types a variety of forms, monthly reports, minutes from meetings for nursing personnel. Operates personal computer, will be required to use common type software such as word processing, electronic mail, database management, graphics, and spreadsheet software; maintains filing system for the unit. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of general experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-04: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of general experience to qualify for the GS-04 grade level:General Experience is defined as: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR 2 years education above high school. Education is defined as: One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit.
