Confidential Employer Farm Worker and Laborer, Crop in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania

Workers will perform assigned duties as instructed by their supervisor. Duties may vary from time to time. Following supervisors instruction, workers will harvest, load, and grade various types of vegetables. The worker will require use of hand tools such as shears and knives. This work can require standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds for long periods of time outdoors in all weather conditions. It also includes making important decisions based on size, coloring and ripeness according to prescribed standards. This work requires adherence to important food safety and quality standard operating procedures and the ability to work quickly and consistently alongside fellow workers with a positive, professional, team-based attitude and a consideration for the safety and health of fellow workers and of the consumers who will purchase and consume the fresh produce grown, harvested, packed, and shipped from the farm. Cucumber Harvest: As instructed, worker will move down assigned row grasping, twisting then removing cucumber from plant by snapping stem. Place cucumber into bucket, exercising care to avoid damage to vines and cucumber. Dump full buckets as instructed. Pepper Harvesting: As instructed, worker will move down assigned row and pick proper size, shape and color of pepper, place into bucket. When full, take to designated area. Harvesting Tomatoes : Using a bucket, remove mature tomatoes from the plant with both hands (also remove calyx and stem from tomato) and place into bucket. Repeat the process on each plant until bucket is full. Then lift the bucket and place as instructed. Worker will also harvest a variety of fruits and vegetables during the season. It is unknown at this time exactly what vegetables may be harvested and/or planted, however, the workers will be paid the adverse effect wage rate, the prevailing wage, or the minimum wage whichever is higher. Fruits and vegetables will include, but are not limited to stone fruit, apples, pears, blackberries, onions, garlic, sweet corn, lopes, melons, beans, eggplant, potatoes, cabbage greenhouse flowers and strawberries. Strawberry plugs and cuttings. Worker will safely operate tractors and other farm vehicles as directed. General Farm Work: Tasks the worker must be able to perform include: field cleanup including pulling weeds, maintain crops, gathering plastic, picking up trash, and pulling and palletizing stakes The employer will provide the tools necessary to perform the described job duties without charge to the worker.
