JOB SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of safe and effective patient-centered care in a variety of settings based on education, knowledge, skill set, and competency. The Registered Nurse communicates with physicians/Managers/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties in the departments with adequate supervision. Participates in performance improvement activities.
Provides Intravenous infusions and/or injections of medications/fluids to pediatric patient populations. Addresses the psychological, physical and general aspects of care related to the pediatric patient in the Infusion environment. Plans, evaluates and implements interventions for a wide variety of conditions including but not limited to infections, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune disorders. Monitors, positions and assesses patient during infusion process. Communicates with the ordering provider on any changes in patient condition during infusion. Assists with the maintenance of equipment, supplies and inventory. Assesses infusion area for equipment functioning, safety and readiness. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Infusion team are met. Supports and maintains a culture of people, safety, service excellence and quality, fiscal responsibility. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. May be required to work in other units as oriented/assigned.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy and specific to unit age specific populations.
Ability to formulate and revise an individualized plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment. Evaluates overall plan daily for effectiveness.
Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques including non- pharmacological techniques. Includes patient and family in all aspects of pain management through on-going education about pain, assessment, treatment and common barriers to adequate management.
Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services within scope of practice.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to all health care team members.
Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
Provides care appropriate to disease condition and age of the patient.
Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
Reports significant events such as near misses, adverse events, patient/family complaints, and any situation that affects the safe delivery of patient-centered care in a timely manner.
Respects patient’s confidentiality and the right to privacy.
Ensures that documentation is correct for infusion processes utilizing standard work practices.
Identifies opportunities for improvement.
Ensuring proper environmental conditions are met for type of infusion given equipment and supplies safety (humidity, temperature).
Service
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Functions as liaison between the patient/family, physicians, other healthcare providers and administration.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with social service/discharge planner regarding both in hospital and post discharge needs.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.
Demonstrates the ability to handle emergency situations during low-, moderate- and high-risk infusions.
Knows the process for activating a rapid response or activate a code in an emergent situation.
Ensuring that patient has understanding pre-, intra- and post-infusion processes
People
Works with ancillary department to ensue seamless flow and high quality care of patients through our outpatient systems.
Establishes and maintains effective communication and good working relationships with coworkers for the patient’s benefit, through email, SBAR, and face to face interactions.
Professional Growth
Maintains competencies in pharmacology of medications used, processes, protocols, supplies, equipment, and acute care knowledge base of human anatomy/physiology.
Stays current with changes in technology, techniques, equipment through continuing education, seminars/conferences, professional societies and journals.
Finance
Properly documents infusion charges of without error.
Responsible in maintaining records and handling of special equipment, monitors and instruments, and notifies manager if preventative maintenance is needed to preserve equipment function.
Appropriately uses timekeeping system, takes proactive approach to minimizing the use of overtime, and takes ownership to allocate time in other departments.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience & License
Current unrestricted Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure.
Nursing degree required, BSN, preferred.
BLS certification, required.
PALS certification, required.
Minimum of one year of acute care experience.
Pediatric experience, preferred.
Additional Skills
Must have competency for IV placement and central line access/de-access completed prior to end of orientation period.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Basic computer knowledge
Detail oriented, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
Participates in continuing education activities within the department and organization
Attends and actively participates in departmental staff meetings
Keeps up to date with clinical practice and evidence-based practice guidelines
Stays abreast of organizational policies and procedures
Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
