Smith Brothers Tool Welder/Fabricator/Fitter in Shelby twp, Michigan

The position of Welder is responsible for completing all tasks related to the fitting and welding of steel, aluminum and Invar using MIG/TIG welding processes. Will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. Use hand-welding, flame-cutting, hand-soldering, or brazing equipment to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Essential Functions

Responsible for preparing, fitting, and welding materials (steel, aluminum, and Invar)

Fabricates from blueprints using templates and models including using fitting and water jet applications

Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment

Select and install torches, torch tips, filler rods, and flux, according to welding chart specifications or types and thicknesses of metals

Develops templates and models for welding projects, using mathematical calculations based on blueprint information

Determine required equipment and welding methods, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques

Works with other team members to ensure job is completed to customer specifications and on time for delivery.

CWI (Certified Weld Inspector) if applicable, is responsible for welding matrix and any required certification paperwork.

Knowledgeable and able to utilize fire supression methods in case of an accident.

Ability to maintain the integrity of the material to avoid overheating, warping, or any kind of distortion

Proficient making sure product is in correct position and secured for welding

Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Competent in fitting and water jet training.

Proficient in aerospace related welding

Fitting and Welding of Steel, Aluminum and Invar using Mig/Tig welding process

Weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment

Analyze engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, sketches, work orders, and material safety data sheets to plan layout, assembly and operations

Competencies

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with shifts that could be 8, 9, 10 or 11 hours and 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday if needed, 40-72 hours per week.
