Job Summary Alliant Energy has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Unit Operator - Large Steam Plant. This position will be located out of our Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan, WI. With the recent announcement to keep our plant operational and covert it into a Gas Operation in 2028, there\'s no better time to join our team than now! Our Lead Unit Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of steam boilers, electric generating units and auxiliary equipment. What you will do * Demonstrate leadership in the area of safety; which requires observing and enforcing safety rules and practices, encouraging safe work behaviors, and promptly correcting conditions and unsafe behaviors which may lead to accidents. Participates in accident and safety investigations. * Leads and drives the establishment, acceptance and implementation of operating policies, procedures and activities that maximize operating results. Assumes responsibility for all activities of the plant and plant site. Plans, assigns duties and supervises employees assigned to the shift and ensures duties are being performed in accordance with established plant policies and procedures. Coordinates EICs for work as the primary authorized employee as needed. * Continuously monitors performance against operating goals and communicates such information to employees. Ensures that employees understand and accept Business Unit and plant/unit operating goals and guides them to focus their efforts on achieving such goals. Takes appropriate actions to ensure that resources and efforts remain focused on the achievement of plant/unit operating goals. * Leads and drives the implementation of process improvements and recommendations of the process performance coordinator with focus on the performance of critical processes and systems. * Ensures strict adherence to corporate values in complying with all environmental, safety and other laws and regulations. * Ensures that all aspects of plant operations remain in compliance with environmental rules and regulations. * Operates control equipment to obtain safe and economical operation of boilers, turbines and auxiliary equipment. * Operates switchboard to obtain safe and proper operation of plant and system electrical equipment. * Receives calls and executes orders from the Generation Dispatch Center; keeps a complete record of orders, operations and incidents. * Prepares logs and reports as required. * Informs the shift supervisor or supervisor on duty of any abnormal or unusual conditions that may occur. * Performs troubleshooting activities related to plant operating systems. * Keeps the control room neat and orderly. * Routinely performs the duties of the Unit Operator and Equipment Operator-Operations. * Assists in the training of employees. * Assists with maintenance work of ordinary nature when not operating. * Performs all work according to established procedures and safety practices. * Performs other duties which are similar, related, and incidental to the position.
