Our dedicated, expert team at AdventHealth South Overland Park, formerly Shawnee Mission Health – Overland Park, provides excellent care to communities of southeastern Johnson County, with 24/7 emergency room services, an advanced imaging center, physical therapy and more.

The role you’ll contribute:

The Paramedic is responsible for the provision of care for a patient or an assigned group of patients under the supervision/direction of the Physician, in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. The Paramedic assists with implementation and administration of the patient care process relative to the medical plan of care. The Paramedic uses the skills of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in their patient care delivery. Primary function is the delivery of competent, compassionate, and cost effective patient care. This performance follows established policies, procedures, and protocols under the supervision of the Physician, in collaboration with the Registered Nurse.

The Paramedic demonstrates collaborative and professional communication skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth. The Paramedic strives to advance from novice to expert and become an evidence-based scholar in order to provide optimal patient care and advocate on behalf of his/her patients. The Paramedic serves as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of AdventHealth. S/he is accountable for working within the parameters of the approved scope or practice, all regulatory standards and established policies, protocols and procedures set forth by the Medical Director and designees.

The value you’ll bring to the team:

  • Demonstrates effective skills to ensure quality patient care is provided

  • Performs and documents procedures according to the Paramedic Associate scope defined by the Medical Director and designees, to include:

  • Perform dressing changes and wound care

  • Perform blood draws

  • Insert and/or discontinue IV’s and IO’s

  • Central line monitoring

  • Splinting, cervical stabilization, hemorrhage control to include application of tourniquets

  • Mechanical restraints, with physician order

  • Administers respiratory therapy per policy

  • Assist with complex bedside procedures such as:

  • Chest tube insertion, needle decompression

  • Advanced airway management

  • Medication administration as defined by policy

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

  • Minimum qualifications:

  • EMT-P Certification in the State of Kansas

  • Associate degree in Paramedicine

  • 1 years of experience as a Paramedic in the field, hospital, or in a clinical setting

  • Within 6 months of hire:

  • ACLS certification

  • PALS certification

  • NIHSS certification

  • Preferred qualifications:

  • National registry as a Paramedic

  • Associate degree in Paramedicine
