Scott County Maintenance Worker II in Shakopee, Minnesota

Job Summary The eligible register developed from this posting may be used to fill future FT and PT vacancies within this classification. This position performs a variety of skilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and work on electronic security systems for the maintenance and upkeep of County equipment, buildings, and grounds. Maintains facility interiors and exteriors and keeps buildings and equipment running properly to ensure safe and effective environments. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on buildings, equipment, and grounds as needed. Most work is performed inside; however, at times duties may require working outside and in areas with a moderate degree of risk and/or discomfort. This position lifts and/or navigates up to 75 pounds on a routine basis in handling equipment necessary for performing the essential duties of the job. Position will be open until filled. Essential Duties Operates, repairs, and maintains the HVAC systems including boiler, chillers, air handlers, and computerized climate control systems. Receives and inputs information and closes out tasks through an automated work order system. Operates, repairs, and maintains plumbing systems. Makes repairs and maintains electrical systems. Inspects buildings and grounds to determine nature and extent of repairs required. Maintains and makes repairs to the jail kitchen and laundry facilities. Performs snow removal activities and maintenance of grounds, including sprinkler system and landscaping. Performs light remodeling, repairs to sheetrock, tile, etc.; assembles office units and spaces; performs painting, staining, and creates special woodworking projects as needed; rearranges desks, files, furniture and other office items. Operates, repairs, and tests all safety and emergency equipment. Performs a variety of metal work for repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment as well as special projects. Contacts vendors to order parts, supplies, and equipment. Contacts service providers to perform warranty work and service repairs. Serves on-call for one-week long, 24/7 shifts, on a rotational basis responding to facility and grounds related issues and emergencies and being able to reach the facility/ground destination within 40 minutes of the call. Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begins and ends work on time. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications Requires the equivalency of high school graduation and four years of skilled maintenance work related to the upkeep of buildings and grounds, and possession of a valid driver's license. Education may be substituted for experience. One must obtain a MN Special Engineer boiler operator's license within the first 60 days of employment and be able to obtain a MN Second Class C Boiler Operator's License within 13 months of obtaining the MN Special Engineer boiler operator's license. Selection Process Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience.
