Summer Youth Program Teacher - $20.00 hour!

The Summer Youth Program Teacher develops, implements (with the assistance of the Summer Aides) and supervises both programmatic and direct care services for physically and mentally challenged youth residents attending the Verland Summer Program. The Summer Program Teacher provides specialized care in perception, self-direction, adapted living skills, social skills, and communication. This is a FT temporary position,  June -- mid-August. Monday -- Friday  7:00am -- 3:30pm. Wage - $20.00 hr.

Verland provides care for adults and children who have intellectual, medical and /or physical disabilities, in 47 homes across Southwestern Pennsylvania. Verland is proud to serve residential and day programs in multiple locations including Allegheny, Beaver, Mercer, Fayette counties. .Summer Youth Program Teacher duties:

  • Working directly with the students in programmatic situations and monitoring their progress
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of weekly lessons plans, which include planning for community outings
  • Assisting with personal care for youth, including feeding, hygiene, toileting, positioning, and other job related duties as required
  • Providing escort services for youth utilizing community resources
  • Supervising the performance of the Summer Aides and reporting disciplinary problems as necessary
  • Attend all necessary meetings to ensure consistency of programming and communicating student progress.
  • General knowledge of various disciplines and how they pertain to each individual, i.e. behavioral plans, CT, OT, etc., and ensuring that all pertinent plans are being followed

Requirements

  • Be working towards a degree in Human Services or related field, such as Special Education, Psychology, Therapies, Sociology
  • Have experience providing personal care or activities of daily living
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle, and successful completion of clearances, physical, drug screen
  • This position requires sitting, standing, walking and driving. Also required are the abilities to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds independently, bend and stretch as needed, see, hear, speak, write, push, pull, climb, twist, reach,

Up to 2 weeks paid training provided by Verland, to educate new hires on daily living skills, social engagement, personal hygiene skills, along with each individual's support plan/ personal development goals that are essential to improve the daily lives of the individuals that we serve.
