Minerva University Community Event Manager in Seoul, South Korea

COMMUNITY EVENT MANAGER

Reporting to the Seoul City Director, the Community Event Manager will be an integral member of the Student Life Team with duties to oversee community activities in the city in order to provide students with a holistic semester. The Community Event Manager will design and facilitate educational experiences and large-scale cultural events along with the support from the Experiential Education Manager (EEM) and Residence Life Manager (RLM). The successful candidate has expertise in event coordination and community management skills, will embrace the opportunity to work with young adults from more than 54 countries, is eager and excited to work in a fast-paced and changeable working environment, and should be open to live in the assigned staff housing within one of the two Seoul residence hall buildings in Sinseol and Dongdaemun during the academic semester.

This role requires occasional evening and weekend work. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the Republic of Korea.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, manage and implement Minerva's in-city community programming, including Milestone events, throughout the semester

  • Build community and foster a sense of belonging for students within our diverse, global student community

  • Contribute programmatic, logistical and budgetary support for the Student Life Team over the course of the semester

  • Support Experiential Education Manager in working with Seoul-based network and professional civic partners to design pre-professional programming and projects for our students

  • City preparation, opening and closing the rotation city, including check-in and check-out duties

  • Hold the city's Emergency Phone on a rotational basis with the other members of the team, across the whole semester, during which the on-duty employee may not leave the rotation city

  • Update content and facilitate communications to students through established Minerva platforms such as the Community Portal and myMinerva

  • Complete other projects and tasks as assigned

SKILL PORTFOLIO

  • In depth local city and cultural expertise

  • Extensive network and local partner contacts

  • Fluent in spoken and written English and Korean

  • Skills, experience, and interest in facilitating collaboration within a highly diverse, international community; exceptional awareness of intercultural dynamics

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high capacity for quick communication across multiple channels and global time zones

  • Expertise in project management; ability to define goals, meet urgent deadlines, organize and prioritize projects with consistent follow-through

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills with strong student-centered focus and attention to detail

  • Capacity to learn and use new technology in a very fast-paced environment (Notion, Slack, Google Suite skills a plus)

  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a team and interacting effectively with colleagues, faculty and students

  • Experience with all elements of on-site study abroad management is required, as well as an interest in working closely with students from over 60 nationalities, ensuring their experience in Taipei is memorable, safe, and intellectually stimulating

  • Familiar with local crisis management processes, authorities and legislation

  • Ability to respond to and triage unexpected and serious incidents effectively

  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or will be trained)

  • Strong sense of discretion, confidentiality and tact

  • Record of sensitivity and respect to diverse cultures, politics, values and forms of communication

  • Available to work late nights/weekends (with time off-duty during the semester)

  • Bachelor's degree with relevant graduate work preferred

  • 2-3 years' experience in student services and/or study abroad preferred

Length of contract:

This is a 6.5 month contract position beginning November 1, 2024. Compensation is based on the annual equivalent of $35,000-$45,000 USD.
