UPMC is seeking an exceptional Director of Surgical Services to helm our dynamic and comprehensive operations. This pivotal role encompasses oversight of the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), Endoscopy, Outpatient Procedures, and Central Services. You will be instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of high-quality care from pre-admission to discharge, enhancing patient satisfaction, and maintaining economic stability.

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Strategic Planning:

  • Develop and recommend operating and capital budgets to the VP of Operations.

  • Analyze and adjust resource utilization to maintain cost-effectiveness.

  • Ensure decision-making processes consider both quality and cost.

Patient Care & Ethical Standards:

  • Establish an environment that ensures competent, ethical, and legal patient care.

  • Monitor HCAHPS scores and implement strategies for improvement.

  • Oversee Quality Improvement (QI) and Infection Control (IC) data.

Operational Oversight

  • Provide 24/7 administrative oversight for multiple departments.

  • Plan and coordinate interdepartmental interactions to deliver excellent service.

  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and best practice standards.

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Integrate perioperative services into the broader organizational strategy.

  • Actively participate in interdepartmental meetings and initiatives.

  • Foster a collaborative environment with management, staff, and medical professionals.

  • MS, MSN, MBA, or MHA required.

  • Minimum of five- (5) years current perioperative leadership/management experience.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Organizational ability, management and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise in area standards.

  • Financial and budgeting knowledge.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34
