Department of Defense Education Activity Instructional Systems Specialist (Autism Spectrum Disorder) in Sembach, Germany

Summary About the Position: This position is with the Department of Defense Education Activity, SPED Support Team. Federal employees in Sembach, Germany are currently entitled to receive a 25% Post Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. Responsibilities Administer the autism program for district schools. Monitor quality of autism program services for compliance with professional quality assurance standards. Analyze autism related education data to identify professional learning strategies. Apply instructional program evaluation theories to assess the autism programs. Analyze autism related data to identify comprehensive educational needs. Advise the education staff on autism disorder programming needs. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements: Minimum Education Requirement: A Master's degree in the field of Special Education or Education. A Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology is also acceptable. The course work must have been completed at or accepted by a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. AND Specialized Experience Requirement (5 years): Specialized experience is special education experience gained in teaching, educational research, development of educational materials and aids, educational testing, educational administration, or comparable activities in an elementary and/or secondary school which has clearly demonstrated success in the application of principles, methods, and techniques of education and familiarity with current developments in PreK-12th grade education and training. This experience must have been in special education. This position requires a minimum of 2 years of autism experience. AND Professional Licensure/Certification Requirement: Applicants must be currently certified or certifiable under the current DoDEA standards as a Teacher, Severely Learning Impaired/Multiple Disabilities (categories 0416, 0417 or 0418); Teacher, Physically Impaired (category 0419); Teacher, Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired (categories 0420, 0421 or 0422); Teacher, Moderately to Severely Learning Impaired (categories 0423, 0424 or 0425); Teacher, Emotionally Impaired (categories 0426, 0427 or 0428); Teacher, Preschool Children with Disabilities (category 0429); Teacher, Hearing Impaired (category 0470); Teacher, Visually Impaired (category 0471); or Teacher, Speech/Language Pathology (category 0472). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Instructional Program Administration Instructional Program Evaluation Needs/Occupational Analysis Partnering Staff and Faculty Development Education Foreign Degrees and Course Work from Non-accredited Institutions. Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Three evaluation procedures are acceptable: 1. the work may be evaluated and interpreted by the International Education Research Foundation, Inc., Credential Evaluation Service, Post Office Box 3665, Culver City, CA 90231-3665 or www.ierf.org/ or 310-258-9451. 2. the foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education); and 3. the work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution. Graduates of non-accredited institutions may have their undergraduate work validated by admittance to graduate school and completion of a minimum of 5 semester hours of credit in a regionally accredited graduate college. Applicants must be U.S. citizens who are not considered Ordinarily Resident under the applicable Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). An ordinarily resident is anyone who has lived in the host country longer than the allowed number of days without being a member of the forces assigned, civilian component or a family member of either the aforementioned or who has obtained a work permit for any duration. Ordinarily Resident restrictions apply and vary depending on the host nation. Applicants who have family members with special medical needs should ensure that prior to accepting a position overseas their family members' medical needs can be met. Access to care in a military treatment facility may not be available to civilian employees except on a space available basis. Consequently, host nation medical facilities may be the only care available. The availability and level of care at host nation medical facilities will vary by location. Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only. Medical and dental care may be provided by host nation providers. The availability and level of care at host nation medical and dental facilities will vary by location. Selectees initially recruited from the United States may receive certain foreign area benefits such as: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) or government quarters, home leave, etc. (Subject to approval).
