Interior, Bureau of Indian Affairs Laborer - Open Until Filled in Sells, Arizona

Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Superintendent, Tohono O'odham Agency in Sells, Arizona. The goal of the position is to provide routine and emergency road maintenance throughout the Tohono O'odham Nation by performing a variety of manual labor tasks. Responsibilities Patches hard surface roads with cold asphalt mix which includes initially cleaning area to be patched, eliminating jagged edges by use of a pick, applying the tacking coat, filling the pothole with cold mix, and then tamping it down. Cleans irrigation culvert using a shovel and as necessary a pick or crowbar to pry rocks loose. Cuts brush and weeds using an ax, scythe, or brush book. Makes minor repairs to traffic control signs such as replacing missing bolts. As needed, replaces damaged signs or signposts. Operates cement compactor when working with team to install culverts. Loads and unloads trucks and semi-trailers by hand or hand truck. Moves and rearranges equipment and material around shop and storage areas. Position requires average or above average strength, ability, and muscular endurance to perform assigned duties. Frequently carries, lifts, and supports items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects weighing approximately 100 pounds. Working Conditions: The work is predominately outdoors and will expose the incumbent to all kinds of weather, on all kinds of terrain and with footing from dry and solid to wet, deep mud and around deep water. Breathing conditions are generally good, but temperatures vary. All qualification requirements must be met by the date of application. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the date of application.
