The School of Nursing (SON) Office of Student and Academic Affairs has an outstanding opportunity for an Undergraduate Program Academic Advisor.

The Undergraduate Academic Adviser for the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) programs is a key team member in supporting undergraduate nursing students through their respective programs (BSN or ABSN). This position serves approximately 290+ full-time matriculated undergraduate students and works collaboratively with various stakeholders in the school, predominantly the Undergraduate Program Director, Office of Clinical Placements, and program faculty to ensure successful student progression through the respective programs. Additionally, this position is tasked with ensuring adherence to the best practices, recommendations, and standards set forth by the National Academic Advising Association. This position requires a thorough understanding of the complexities of the BSN/ABSN curriculum, nursing pre-licensure requirements, and the School’s program requirements and policies.

This role is central to the Student Services team, playing a pivotal role in the strategic advancement of the School’s baccalaureate programs. This role carries out a student-centered advising approach that strengthens the student experience and serves as the first point of contact for students. The individual in this position provides students with the appropriate resources and services that will help retain and guide students throughout the program. This includes and is not limited to individual and group advising sessions, tracking academic progression, ensuring adherence to UW and School of Nursing requirements, and serving as a conduit to share resources to meet students’ individual needs. This role serves as a liaison to undergraduate student groups and supports the School’s undergraduate Coordinating Committee.

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Academic Advising, the Undergraduate Nursing Academic Adviser will provide advising services to all undergraduate students enrolled in the ABSN and BSN programs (three cohorts), will work collaboratively to assess and improve upon the student experience within each program, and will help to ensure student progression and graduation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Advising: 80%

  • Curriculum Coordinating Committee Participation & Support: 20% DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ABSN & BSN Academic Advising (80%):

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on behalf of the ABSN and BSN programs.

  • Serve as the primary academic Advisor to approximately 290+ students enrolled in School of Nursing BSN and ABSN programs (four cohorts).

  • Ensure and maintain adherence to guidelines, standards, and recommendations provided by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA)

  • Provide timely, consistent, accessible, and comprehensive advising services to undergraduate nursing students, both one-on-one and in a group setting.

  • Provide timely responses to student and faculty inquiries

  • Handle and solve faculty- student-identified concerns and issues

  • Effectively coach and guide undergraduate students to successfully complete their program requirements.

  • Develop, plan, coordinate, and facilitate quarterly academic advising sessions for current and incoming students.

  • Lead individual and group student advising sessions, assess program satisfaction, and consult on academic issues as needed

  • Lead and facilitate an annual student progress review

  • Provide administrative support to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Honors Program and work with faculty coordinator to ensure program requirements are met and in alignment with UW’s honors program requirements.

  • Manage all daily administrative operations for both undergraduate programs – ABSN & BSN

  • Lead and inform students about the registration process for their respective programs and work with the SoN curriculum team to ensure all registration is accurate and current.

  • Advise enrolled students on registration, course & curriculum progress, licensure, and degree completion issues.

  • Serve as a key member in Connected Teaching meetings, provide insight to faculty about SoN & UW guidelines and policies that will support progression in the undergraduate programs.

  • Co-lead the development and annual update of the Undergraduate Student Handbook

  • Manage DARS audits and graduation application processing

  • Inform undergraduate students about the NCLEX process. Initiate and oversee the coordination of the licensure process via NCLEX application process.

  • Serve as a primary reviewer for ABSN & BSN admission applications.Student, Faculty & Operations Support (20%):

  • Serve as Student Services staff support for the BSN Coordinating Committee (BSNCC).

  • Provide ongoing consultation with BSNCC chair and Undergraduate Program Director to plan monthly BSNCC meetings.

  • Serve as SON & UW policy expert to advise BSNCC during committee deliberations and decisions.

  • Serve as a key member of the Office of Student and Academic Affairs team, supporting all student-centered events (convocation, pinning, orientation, job fair, resume workshops, etc.).

  • Perform other duties as required to support the ongoing mission and strategic goals of the School of Nursing. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, nursing or a relevant field

  • 3 years of demonstrated student services experience and applicable administrative experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency with most Microsoft Office tools

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative on tasks/projects DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in education, nursing, or related field.

  • Prior student advising or student and academic experience in a higher education setting.

  • Understanding of UW’s academic advising resources.

  • Familiarity with the UW advising guidelines, tools, and resources.

  • Familiarity with Canvas and other learning technology platforms. CONDITITONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Normal work hours of 8am-5pm, with occasional weekend and evening commitments.

  • Hybrid work of up to 40% remote may be approved after onboarding and training are complete.
