Professional and Organizational Development (POD) has an outstanding 75-100% opportunity for a Training and OD Consultant. Work is currently remote until September. The Training and OD Consultant has two primary responsibilities: 1. To develop and deliver training programs on leadership skills and University of Washington Human Resources policy and procedures. 2. To provide employee and organization development consultation and counseling/ coaching to department leaders and employees through the University Consulting Alliance including meeting with individual employees and groups of employees to improve the workplace. The Consultant will provide individual and group services for a diverse University-wide client population. The Training and Organizational Development Consultant regularly works with other POD Staff, HR Staff and HR Administrators and managers from all departments, schools, as well as unions. The Consultant also designs and facilitates workshops, courses, and ongoing programs including delivering workshops and courses as customized training sessions upon request from departments or via consultation with individuals or small groups. The Consultant regularly handles highly confidential, sensitive issues with judgment and discretion. The Consultant participates in the development of new services and resources, and provides referral, guidance, and education to clients on appropriate University and external resources. The Consultant exercises substantial discretion, independent judgment, and decision-making authority. The Consultant consults program managers and the Director on new program ideas and is involved in long-range planning for the unit RESPONSIBILITIES: Delivery of Training Uses variety of presentation formats, including lecture, large and small group exercises, simulations and role playing, panel presentations and structured exercises; Actively explores new ideas for training topics and develops programs where needed; Assesses employee needs and delivers appropriate content; Revises training as needed based on participant feedback and new information; Evaluates and selects appropriate audio-visual tools (i.e. films, videos, pre-packaged programs) and incorporates their use into training objectives. Organization Development/Management Consultation/Individual Coaching Responsible for responding to requests for employee and organizational development consultation; Consults with, advises, and offers coaching, training, tools and resources to management teams and work groups in an effort to achieve defined goals and improve effectiveness; Partners with clients to design, facilitate and achieve strategic approaches to support the accomplishment of their vision and goals. This includes strategic planning, performance improvement, conflict resolution, leadership development, quality improvement, communications, team-building, diversity, process improvement, and other customized interventions; Makes recommendations based on University goals and practices, unit leader objectives for the organization, and best practices of the field. Professional and Organizational Development Office Efforts Contributes to the overall program development effort and administration by: Providing excellent customer service to both internal and external customers; Participating in regular staff and planning meetings; Working actively with Professional and Organizational Development staff to keep them informed and lines of communication flowing effectively; Communicating and collaborating effectively with colleagues; Modeling team effectiveness and communication; Assisting in evaluation and streamlining of work flow; Performing special assignments. Program Development Works closely with the Directors of all HR departments and HR Consultants to stay current on HR policy, procedure and public information needs; Meets with departmental administrators and groups of classified and professional staff to determine needs that can be met by Professional & Organizational Development; Develops tools for needs assessments, evaluates and makes recommendations regarding current and future program offerings; Evaluates programs by considering normative, written and verbal feedback; Oversees and manages the HR Administration Certificate. Coordinates to ensure offerings are complimentary to the Strategic Leadership Program and the Supervisory Certificate. Communication Maintains a high level of communication and coordination within Professional & Organizational Development colleagues; Communicates effectively with all levels of the UW organization; Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all interactions; Establishes scope, objectives, products, time schedule and expected outcomes through the development of client contracts; Makes presentations to groups of managers, classified and professional staff, and faculty; Writes edits or revises course materials; Identifies and seeks out appropriate UW and external resources to gather necessary information for delivery of services. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication, Organizational Development.

  • Four to five years of related experience.

  • Experience in developing, presenting, training programs.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

  • Experience and/or knowledge of HR policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with many levels of personnel, including faculty and other administrators, and professional and classified staff.

  • Experience in developing, presenting, training programs.

  • Ability to use computers and software including: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
